Messi's Eyes Light Up as Barcelona Reunion Sparks Major Excitement

Barcelona presidential hopeful Victor Font has stated that his plan to establish some form of partnership with Lionel Messi to restore his connection with the club "thrills" the iconic former player.

Font has adopted an aggressive stance in his presidential campaign. With election fever intensifying, Joan Laporta's main rival has criticized every element of his opponent's leadership. Beyond fiscal irresponsibility and an overly cordial relationship with Real Madrid, Laporta's damaged bond with Messi has served as a central talking point for Font.

The club's record goalscorer surprised Laporta and his entire board when he secretly entered the refurbished Camp Nou in November without obtaining club authorization. "I hope I can come back one day," he posted on social media, "and not just to bid farewell as a player, which I never had the chance to..." Font is eager to position himself as the candidate who will facilitate that reunion.

"The greatest player ever, a Barça supporter, the fact that we've severed connections with him and he must sneak into Camp Nou ... the bond with him is completely shattered, unlike with Real Madrid," Font stated on the El Larguero radio program on Cadena SER.

"Reuniting Barça with Messi should have been a top priority for quite some time.

"We've been developing plans for several years to mend that rift as swiftly as possible. But not just from a moral and emotional perspective, but also from a business and institutional angle, there's an initiative we'll unveil in March. How does Messi view it? I'm certain he'll be tremendously enthusiastic. We've learned that this kind of proposal captivates him."

Laporta has openly acknowledged that his relationship with Messi remains strained. "The circumstances sadden me," he admitted in December. "Leo contributed immensely to Barcelona and Barcelona contributed immensely to Leo. I hope we can reconcile."

After seemingly supporting Laporta's presidential comeback in March 2021, Messi then found himself compelled to leave the club when the newly installed leader declared there was insufficient budget for extending his contract. The two have communicated just once during the following five years.

Messi will maintain a neutral position during this year's election, according to SPORT. The Argentine striker has been careful to avoid referencing any candidates specifically and is anticipated to abstain from voting entirely.

The influence Messi could wield over the election results cannot be overstated. Possessing an almost godlike status in the city, any candidate earning Messi's endorsement would immediately become the clear frontrunner. Without the legend's support, Font has chosen the predictable path of making hollow pledges.

Erling Haaland

Real Madrid's current president Florentino Pérez famously won his initial presidential term in 2000 by vowing to acquire Barcelona's star striker Luís Figo in what became a record-breaking transfer. The shrewd executive bound the Portuguese player and his representative into a legally enforceable agreement that ultimately compelled him to switch sides in the intense Clásico rivalry. In practice, most comparable promises made during campaign periods prove as reliable as any other political manifesto.

"We've pinpointed three or four areas that could benefit from strengthening, with center back being one of them," Font declared. "Personally, as a forward, I'm really impressed by [Erling] Haaland, as I believe he represents the ideal striker archetype. Could he be a viable target for Barça? I haven't explored that possibility. The sporting strategy involves discussions with clubs. I doubt [Manchester] City would consider selling Haaland."

That assessment would be accurate.

Nevertheless, there might be greater validity in a coaching change.

Font's relationship with Barcelona manager Hansi Flick appears tense. The candidate confessed he hasn't communicated with the German coach and has openly vowed to remove his trusted sporting director Deco, sparking rumors that the manager might step down. Font praised Flick as "a vital component of the outstanding results the team is producing" but quickly contradicted that diplomatic position by discussing his potential replacements.

"Luis Enrique? He's an excellent manager and matches the type of sporting vision Barça should pursue, similar to Flick, [Pep] Guardiola, [Mikel] Arteta, Cesc [Fàbregas]," Font contemplated.
