Mexico Springs Stunning Surprise with Unexpected Star's Return to 25-Man Squad for September Friendlies

Javier Aguirre has revealed Mexico's 25-man roster that will head to the United States during the September international window for friendly matches against Japan and South Korea.

With under 12 months remaining until kickoff at the Estadio Azteca for Mexico's inaugural match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, every squad selection generates increasing anticipation.

The most shocking inclusion in "El Vasco's" roster is Hirving "Chucky" Lozano. Since Aguirre took charge a year ago, Lozano has been absent from El Tri action entirely. However, following impressive displays during his inaugural MLS campaign with San Diego FC, the former World Cup standout will receive another chance to prove himself.

Rodrigo Huescas makes his return to El Tri after being omitted from the 2025 Gold Cup roster. The FC Copenhagen fullback has established himself as a regular starter at club level and represents Mexico's sole participant in this season's Champions League competition.

Gilberto Mora, the 16-year-old sensation who contributed significantly to Mexico's recent Gold Cup triumph, is absent from the squad as he's scheduled to represent El Tri at the U-20 World Cup in Chile during late September.

Mexico faces Japan on Sept. 6 and South Korea on Sept. 9, with El Tri's complete squad for the friendlies listed below.
