Mexico's 2026 World Cup Journey: Every Match and Stadium Revealed

Mexico's 2026 World Cup Journey: Every Match and Stadium Revealed

The Mexican national squad now knows its fate for the 2026 World Cup after the completion of the group stage draw.

El Tri will face South Africa in their tournament opener—recreating their encounter from 16 years prior—before taking on South Korea and the victor from UEFA's Playoff D, which may be Denmark, North Macedonia, Czechia or the Republic of Ireland. Overall, the 2026 World Cup draw proved advantageous for Javier Aguirre's squad.

Escaping the group stage elimination is El Tri's primary objective next summer. Despite recent challenges, Mexico possesses the talent to compete with its Group A adversaries and should they claim the group title, Aguirre's team would earn an extra match in their nation's capital.

El Tri has never reached five matches in any of their previous 17 World Cup campaigns. Next summer, Aguirre's squad aims to surpass that milestone and achieve a memorable showing.

Below is Mexico's complete 2026 World Cup fixture list, including their possible journey through the tournament's elimination phase.

How Mexico Secured Their 2026 FIFA World Cup Spot

Mexico earned automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup as one of the three hosting countries.

Being a host nation, Mexico was also automatically assigned to Pot 1, preventing any possible group-stage encounters with the world's top-ranked national teams.

Where Might Mexico Contest Knockout Matches?

Estadio Azteca

Mexico's route through the elimination rounds will depend completely on their group stage finishing position.

El Tri will be eager to claim Group A's top spot, which would allow them to contest the round of 32 and possibly the round of 16 at their Mexico City stronghold: the Estadio Azteca.

Should Mexico progress in second or third position from Group A, then Aguirre's team would need to travel northward and contest all knockout matches on American territory. If El Tri reaches the quarterfinals, then every match from that stage forward would also take place in the U.S.
