MLS Club Eyes Ange Postecoglou as Potential Target for 2026 Move

Despite breaking Tottenham Hotspur's 17-year trophy drought, Ange Postecoglou couldn't secure his position after the club's disappointing 17th-place Premier League campaign.
Although Spurs claimed the UEFA Europa League title, the club decided to dismiss Postecoglou after his second term in charge. Surprisingly, LAFC has emerged as a potential destination for the Australian tactician, with reports suggesting discussions about a possible 2026 appointment.
BBC Sports indicates that LAFC is contemplating an approach to bring Postecoglou across the Atlantic to Major League Soccer as their next head coach.
Steve Cherundolo, who took over LAFC's managerial duties before the 2022 MLS campaign, has experienced considerable success with the franchise. Nevertheless, the former US national team defender has already announced his departure from Los Angeles at the conclusion of the 2025 season, planning to return to Germany where he previously played most of his career with Hannover 96.
During his inaugural campaign, Cherundolo guided LAFC to an unprecedented achievement, becoming the sole MLS franchise to capture both the Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup within a single season.
Following such an impressive tenure, LAFC appears to be targeting the current Europa League-winning coach as Cherundolo's successor.
Since their 2018 debut season, LAFC has consistently attracted high-profile talent to their roster, including Carlos Vela, Giorgio Chiellini, Olivier Giroud, and former Spurs legends Hugo Lloris and Gareth Bale. This strategy could now extend to securing a marquee appointment for their managerial position.
The 59-year-old manager will likely attract interest from multiple clubs, with the Saudi Pro League presenting another potential destination.
Nevertheless, should the Los Angeles franchise commit fully to pursuing Postecoglou, they might convince him to become among the most prominent coaching figures in MLS history.
