Mohamed Salah Drops Bombshell That Could Shake Up the Premier League Title Race

Liverpool and Mohamed Salah kicked off their Premier League title defense successfully; nevertheless, the Egyptian forward admitted that another club should be viewed as the leading contenders for this season's championship.
During an interview before the 2025 PFA Awards ceremony, Salah was questioned on the red carpet about whether he intended to reduce his pace in the near future. Following some laughter, Liverpool's star player expressed his views regarding Mikel Arteta's squad.
"I believe you [Arsenal] possess an excellent team this season," Salah stated. "You have a genuine opportunity. I consider you the favorites currently because you have players who have been working together for five years now, so, yes. I cannot say I wish you good fortune."
Only Salah understands whether he truly means these statements, or if he's attempting to apply additional pressure on an Arsenal team that has finished runner-up in the past three campaigns and are eager to break a Premier League championship drought spanning more than two decades.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal secured victories in their opening fixtures of the 2025–26 Premier League campaign. The Reds claimed a dramatic season opener against Bournemouth, with Salah clinching the win during injury time. Arsenal, meanwhile, triumphed at Old Trafford with a 1–0 victory over Man United.
On the same day Salah declared Arsenal as favorites to claim England's premier competition, he was also honored for his remarkable 29-goal and 18-assist campaign. Following what was arguably the most outstanding individual Premier League season in history, Salah rightfully became the first player to claim three PFA Player of the Year trophies.
Liverpool will resume play on Monday, Aug. 25, when they visit St. James' Park to face Newcastle United. Subsequently, they'll return to Anfield one week later to welcome Arsenal in an early season clash that could carry significant title implications.
