Mohamed Salah Fires Back at Critics, Unleashes Fierce Defense of Ex-Liverpool Stars

Mohamed Salah used social media to criticize a Liverpool supporter account for a publication that he felt was "showing disrespect" toward Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez.
Although securing their second Premier League championship in the modern era, Liverpool made significant changes to their attacking lineup during the summer transfer window. Both Díaz and Núñez departed the club, with moves to Bayern Munich and Al Hilal respectively, creating space for several new forward acquisitions.
Florian Wirtz took over Díaz's iconic No. 7 jersey—having previously worked alongside the Colombian attacker as both a colleague and mentor before his move to the German league—while Alexander Isak finally claimed the No. 9 shirt left behind by Núñez.
A Liverpool supporter page highlighted these jersey transitions in a digitally created image that drew heavy inspiration from previous content by Sports Illustrated's social media presence. The accompanying text read: "Name a bigger upgrade in footballing history." This statement did not sit well with Salah.
Salah responded to the post with a pointed question: "How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?"
The Egyptian striker made sure to offer heartfelt goodbyes to his two departed colleagues, whom he praised as genuine friends beyond their professional relationship.
"You were consistently authentic and contributed tremendous positive energy everywhere you traveled," Salah penned to Núñez, who had developed an especially effective on-field connection with his goal-scoring partner. "You brought joy to our group and demonstrated passion in all your endeavors. Your presence will be greatly missed and I hope for your success at your new destination."
Salah expressed even greater admiration for Díaz. "As a playing partner, you exceeded expectations of dependability—you were truly motivational. As a companion, you were even more remarkable," he expressed warmly.
Isak joined the Anfield squad only on the final day of transfers and there has been minimal opportunity for Salah to develop chemistry with Wirtz. The pair might eventually create a powerful attacking trio—though Hugo Ekitiké could challenge for that position—but Salah wants to honor those who preceded them initially.
