Mohamed Salah Fires Back at Liverpool Rivals While Revealing His Two Greatest Goals

Jürgen Klopp was notoriously skeptical about bringing Mohamed Salah to Liverpool.

The German manager openly acknowledges that it was the relentless pressure from the club's data analysis team that swayed his decision. "During our scouting process, we watched numerous clips of Mo, and we thought this wasn't the goal-scoring machine we witness today," Klopp subsequently admitted.

Even the strongest advocates for his acquisition could hardly have anticipated that Salah would cement his position as Liverpool's third-highest goalscorer of all time. An impressive collection of strikes has given the club's "goal-scoring machine" numerous choices when selecting his preferred goal.

With 245 goals to pick from, Salah can understandably be excused for choosing two when questioned by France Football.

The Egyptian star immediately recalled his mesmerizing solo effort at Anfield against Manchester City in October 2021. Dancing through a maze of light blue jerseys, Salah fired the ball against the inside of Ederson's distant post from an increasingly tight angle. Time has mellowed the striker's perspective on this spectacular goal. Right after the 2–2 stalemate, he remained unimpressed.

"It would carry more significance if we had secured victory, but that's how it goes," Salah remarked then. "It's a decent strike but not much else to mention."

The demanding perfectionist did permit himself to appreciate his clever chip against the same rivals in April 2018. In the identical France Football interview, Salah was eager to also praise his casual excellence against Manchester City in the Champions League quarterfinal.

With Liverpool already commanding the tie 3–1 overall, Salah glided onto a stray ball within City's disorganized penalty box, evading Ederson with his initial touch before leaving Nicolás Otamendi sprawled with a cheeky lift.

Manchester City have remained Liverpool's primary adversaries during Salah's tenure at Anfield. The Reds have concluded as second-place finishers to Pep Guardiola's unstoppable machine twice despite accumulating point totals that would have secured almost any other Premier League title in English football's past. City may have ended the 2024–25 season 13 points behind Salah's championship-winning squad, but that rivalry persists.

"City will forever be City," the forward cautioned before facing the Citizens last February. "They possess one of history's finest managers and exceptional talent—they have competed at elite level for numerous years, claiming every trophy available. They will consistently remain formidable and can triumph at any moment."

Following his new two-year contract extension at last season's conclusion, Salah has every opportunity to expand his collection of memorable goals against City and other Premier League opponents in the coming period.
