Mohamed Salah has admitted that facing Liverpool at any point in the remainder of his playing days "would be tricky," confessing he would experience "mixed feelings" in such a scenario.
The Egyptian star said goodbye to Liverpool in May following a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield, during which he claimed virtually every major honor available and established himself as one of the club's all-time greats.
His final campaign at Liverpool was more difficult than rewarding, and Salah departed as a free agent, signing with Trabzonspor in Türkiye as he chose to extend his career in Europe. In an interview with his new club, Salah was asked how it would feel to line up against the Reds on behalf of his new side. His response was revealing.
"I would feel mixed feelings," Salah said with a laugh. "Mixed feelings because I've been there nine years. I love the city, I love the fans and we had always a special relationship. So it would be very tricky."
When Could Mohamed Salah Face Liverpool?

Fortunately for Salah—and undoubtedly for many Liverpool supporters—the prospect of an uncomfortable showdown between the Reds and Trabzonspor won't materialize for at least another season.
European competition represents the only realistic path to a meeting between the two clubs, and while Liverpool will participate in the Champions League, Trabzonspor missed out on Europe's premier tournament after finishing third in the Turkish Süper Lig in 2025–26.
Trabzonspor also failed to secure a Europa League berth, suffering a heavy 5–0 aggregate defeat to Hungarian outfit Ferencváros in the qualifying playoffs. As a result, Salah will make his Conference League debut this season.
Nevertheless, Salah remains optimistic about Trabzonspor's chances of winning silverware in his debut season at the club, expressing his desire to lift the Conference League trophy and "hopefully the league as well."
With a two-year deal in place, the possibility of Salah squaring off against Liverpool in European competition during the 2027–28 season cannot be ruled out.
Salah Off to Flying Start in Türkiye

Salah was largely kept quiet during Trabzonspor's disappointing display against Ferencváros, but he quickly bounced back and has hit the ground running in the league with his new side.
Across four Süper Lig appearances, Salah has contributed four goals and one assist—already surpassing half the league goals he managed for Liverpool throughout his entire final Premier League season.
The Egyptian has settled seamlessly into his new surroundings and appears to be rediscovering his peak form under head coach Hüseyin Çimşir. However, toppling the dominant Galatasaray will require a collective effort, as the Istanbul giants have claimed four consecutive Turkish league titles—with rivals Fenerbahçe finishing as runners-up on each occasion.
Trabzonspor currently sit three points behind Galatasaray with the season still in its early stages, but if key figures like Salah and former Liverpool teammate Fabinho can lead the way, this could be the campaign in which the Black Sea club reclaim the top spot in Turkish football.
At 33 years old, Salah may be entering the final chapter of his career, but his quality remains undeniable. Should he maintain his impressive form, he could guide Trabzonspor back into the Champions League—where a potential reunion with his cherished former club cannot be ruled out.
