Mohamed Salah's International Suitors Make Their Move: Transfer Interest Officially Confirmed

Mohamed Salah's International Suitors Make Their Move: Transfer Interest Officially Confirmed

Saudi Pro League CEO Omar Mugharbel has confirmed that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is "definitely" on the radar of Saudi Arabian clubs.

Following a lengthy contract dispute, Salah penned a two-year deal with Liverpool in April. However, merely eight months later, the Egyptian international's future at Anfield has become questionable again after a controversial public statement criticizing Arne Slot and the club.

In a harsh critique, after being benched for three consecutive Premier League matches, Salah expressed feeling "thrown under the bus" and disclosed he had invited his parents to witness what could potentially be his final home game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

The turbulent circumstances at Liverpool align with Salah's upcoming departure for the Africa Cup of Nations and the looming January transfer period. This window could witness several clubs vying for the attacker's services, particularly Saudi Pro League powerhouses.

"Mohamed Salah would be welcomed in the Saudi League, though it's up to individual clubs to handle player negotiations," Mugharbel stated during the World Football Summit in Riyadh. "Certainly Salah is among [our targets]."

Salah has endured a challenging campaign as Liverpool's disappointing Premier League title defense continues; the team has secured only two victories in their previous 10 top-flight encounters. Slot, seeking to break his side's unprecedented poor run, sidelined the current PFA Player of the Year for three straight matches, triggering Salah's surprising public criticism.

The Dutch manager responded by excluding the 33-year-old from Liverpool's Champions League clash against Inter on Tuesday night, where the 20-time English champions secured a 1-0 win courtesy of Dominik Szoboszlai's late penalty.

Salah's inconsistent performances and public disagreement with his club and coach won't deter teams like Al Hilal and Al Ittihad. The latter previously made a £150 million ($200 million) approach for the former Chelsea player in summer 2023, which Liverpool promptly declined.

With Karim Benzema's Al Ittihad deal expiring this season, the reigning Saudi champions would likely need little persuasion to renew their pursuit and secure another European icon for the Saudi Pro League.
