Moises Caicedo Earns Rave Reviews After Dominating Liverpool in Stellar Display
Gary Neville declared Moisés Caicedo as the Premier League's top midfielder following an exceptional display against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
The Ecuador international netted a spectacular strike that put Chelsea ahead in the opening half and subsequently initiated the move for Estêvão's decisive goal with a brilliant pass that cut through Liverpool's defensive pressure. While Caicedo's showing deserved recognition, the former Manchester United star elevated his praise significantly. On an afternoon featuring several of the Premier League's finest talents, Caicedo distinguished himself in Neville's assessment.
"I believe he's the finest midfield player in the league right now and I'm confident in making that statement," Neville expressed on his Sky Sports podcast.
"He [Caicedo] was clearly the outstanding player on the field. Setting aside the goal, which was absolutely spectacular. He's winning possession, dispossessing opponents, his contribution across the pitch... he's a complete package, he's everything.
Neville: Caicedo is the Premier Midfielder Right Now
The former England defender mentioned players like Arsenal's Declan Rice, Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch and Manchester City's Rodri as examples of other top-tier Premier League midfielders in recent seasons. Nevertheless, from Neville's perspective, Caicedo has surpassed them all.
"I believe at this moment as we approach October 2025, we can confidently state that Caicedo is the premier midfield player in the league and he's demonstrating that level," Neville concluded.
Following an uncertain beginning to his tenure at Stamford Bridge, Caicedo has been outstanding since Enzo Maresca assumed control as Chelsea's manager. The Ecuadorian midfielder earned Chelsea's player of the season award last campaign, beginning this season with similar form.
At merely 23 years of age, Caicedo could still be discovering his full capabilities.
