Liverpool boss Arne Slot has confirmed that goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili required a hospital visit for treatment on a knee injury sustained during Sunday's Merseyside derby win against Everton.
Already missing first-choice keeper Alisson through a hamstring problem, Liverpool saw Mamardashvili carried off on a stretcher shortly after Everton's equalizer, having taken a severe blow to the knee as Beto slid in to convert.
Slot was forced to call upon 29-year-old Freddie Woodman for the rest of the 2–1 victory, giving the summer recruit his first 32 minutes of Premier League football since the opening of the 2021–22 campaign.
"Is there anything that surprises you when it comes to injuries with us this season?" Slot said. "Maybe I already envisaged it because I had two goalkeepers on the bench today, which I normally don't have but, of course, it has everything to do with the availability of all the other positions.
"Giorgi had to go to hospital with a big wound, so let's see how he will be. Freddie deserves a lot of credit—coming in just after conceding at 1–1 and their fans were ready for it but he did his job really well."
When Will Mamardashvili Return From Injury?

The image of Mamardashvili being stretchered off was a deeply concerning one for Liverpool supporters who, just days prior, had witnessed striker Hugo Ekitiké depart in the same manner with an Achilles injury that has already ruled him out for the rest of 2026. Thankfully, there is nothing to indicate Mamardashvili suffered anything close to a similar fate.
A heavy knock to the knee required hospital attention, and it remains unclear how long the Georgia international will be sidelined.
Liverpool return to action on Saturday, hosting Crystal Palace at Anfield in a fixture that carries significant weight for both clubs' ambitions. Slot's men are looking to strengthen their push for a Champions League berth, while Palace are desperate for three points to keep their faint Conference League hopes alive.
For now, Woodman remains the only senior goalkeeper at Liverpool's disposal. Slot quipped that he may soon need to look toward the club's youth academy for cover if injuries continue to ravage his squad.
"[Woodman] has worked so hard to have this moment," Slot concluded. "Usually, third goalkeepers don't play a lot, but in a season like ours, I think if you are playing in the Under-8s at Liverpool, you should be ready for making your debut because it is unbelievable what is happening to us."
