Mysterious "Let's See" Comment Ignites New Liverpool Contract Crisis Fears

Dominik Szoboszlai has raised new worries that Liverpool might struggle to secure a key player with a contract renewal, revealing that negotiations for an extension haven't reached a conclusion yet.

Until recently, when a heel flick error that led to a Barnsley goal was called "disrespectful" by the League One team and a penalty miss against Burnley that proved decisive, Szoboszlai had been perhaps Liverpool's standout performer in what has been a difficult campaign for the club.

The five-year deal Szoboszlai penned upon his arrival from RB Leipzig in a £60 million ($80.7 million) move in 2023 still has over two seasons remaining.

While it's evident that Liverpool are handling the matter proactively by initiating discussions this early after experiencing complications with Trent Alexander-Arnold, those conversations have occurred and haven't yet resulted in Szoboszlai pledging his long-term future to the team.

The Hungarian midfielder stated this week that "no decision has been reached", implying there is indeed a choice—whether to remain or depart—that needs to be made.

"Discussions are ongoing," he informed reporters before Liverpool's Champions League return. "You media professionals create significant coverage for the [audience] and continue because that's your role.

"Conversations have taken place but, certainly, no decision has been reached. There is constant development but no conclusion has been made and I'll continue each week, each training session, delivering my maximum for the squad, for the supporters. We'll see what unfolds ahead."

Szoboszlai confirmed he is "naturally" content at Liverpool while avoiding any guarantees. "You understand how football operates and that's something everyone must consider."

Szoboszlai was also questioned about Liverpool's circumstances concerning Mohamed Salah, who hasn't featured in a match for the Reds since November and left for the Africa Cup of Nations just one fixture after making controversial statements claiming he felt blamed unfairly.

Arne Slot attempted to defuse the tense situation, indicating there was no problem with Salah. However, the Egyptian star's month-long absence was certainly well-timed, allowing the manager to avoid making repeated choices about whether to include him in the starting lineup.

With AFCON now concluded and Salah preparing to return after helping Egypt achieve fourth place in the competition, all involved parties will finally need to address the situation directly.

Szoboszlai mentioned he has maintained regular communication with his teammate, but declined to share specifics as it's a matter for Salah to address personally.

"We discuss various topics," he stated. "That remains between us.

"We simply continue forward. He will return and then it's a choice for him, the coach and the organization. It doesn't concern us. It's his matter."

Salah continues to be strongly connected with a transfer to the Saudi Pro League, having been pursued by the league's senior officials for multiple years.
