Mystery MLS Team Makes Shocking Move for USMNT Star Josh Sargent
United States men's national team forward Josh Sargent is allegedly in discussions to depart English Championship club Norwich City for a transfer to Major League Soccer outfit Toronto FC.
Based on reports from Fabrizio Romano, the Canadian club has submitted an $18 million bid for the 25-year-old forward. Talks are ongoing, though no deal has been finalized between the organizations, as Norwich seeks to retain their strongest possible squad while battling relegation in England's second division.
Despite Sargent's battles with fitness issues and inconsistent performances since his 2021 arrival from Bundesliga club Werder Bremen, he possesses tactical versatility that allows him to make an impact beyond just scoring goals.
The forward has netted eight times and provided three assists across 24 matches in all competitions this campaign, showing improved form after managing only two USMNT call-ups in 2025. At international level, he has scored five times in 29 appearances for the United States, including a strike during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Sargent was absent from Norwich's commanding 5–1 victory over fourth-division side Walsall in Sunday's FA Cup third round, with head coach Phillipe Clement stating that the American had declared himself unavailable, though not due to injury.
Clement also stressed that his primary central striker was not available for purchase.
"He contacted me to indicate he wasn't available today due to transfer matters occupying his thoughts," Clement explained. "We must discuss this situation within the club this week... The organization has been very clear on this matter. We understand our circumstances. Both he and his representative are aware of the situation, so he will not depart during this transfer period."
Toronto FC's American Contingent Grows

For a franchise located in Canada's most populous city, the significance of USMNT players in Toronto FC's history and current roster is remarkable.
If the organization successfully acquires Sargent, he would unite with other USMNT-capped players including midfielder Đorđe Mihailović and defender Walker Zimmerman, who joined as a free agent during the recent offseason.
Toronto would also anticipate that Sargent can establish himself as a reliable offensive weapon, something they have lacked since former USMNT striker Jozy Altidore departed the club in 2021 following 62 goals in 139 total appearances.
The 2017 MLS Cup winners and three-time finalists Toronto FC have missed the playoffs since 2020, placing 12th in the Eastern Conference in 2025, falling 11 points shy of postseason qualification.
Potentially anchored by a trio of highly-regarded Americans, Toronto will kick off the 2026 MLS regular season against FC Dallas on Feb. 2
