Napoli Sets Shocking Price Tag for Darwin Nunez as Former Teammate Drops Bombshell Revelation

According to his former teammate and fellow Uruguayan Walter Gargano, Darwin Núñez is prepared to make an immediate move to Napoli. However, the Serie A title holders are reportedly well below Liverpool's asking price for the Uruguayan forward.

Núñez experienced a significant decline in his standing at Liverpool during the previous campaign after Arne Slot replaced Jürgen Klopp, making a summer departure increasingly likely.

The unpredictable striker had an outstanding breakthrough season with Benfica in 2021–22, yet remains among the rare Liverpool acquisitions of recent years that failed to meet expectations.

Following their Serie A triumph, Napoli are pursuing an aggressive summer transfer strategy, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that Núñez has approved the club's move toward "more detailed negotiations" with Liverpool.

However, a valuation gap persists between the clubs, as Napoli are willing to pay €40 million (£34.1 million, $46.5 million) while Liverpool seeks closer to €70 million (£59.7 million, $81.4 million). His wage expectations are believed to be around €5 million (£4.3 million, $5.8 million).

The report highlights that Napoli genuinely desire to secure Núñez's services.

These sentiments appear mutual, judging by comments from former Napoli and Uruguay midfielder Walter Gargano during an interview with local radio station Kiss Kiss.

"The passion of the Neapolitan supporters would benefit him greatly. I spoke with him approximately a week ago and genuinely hope he joins Napoli," Gargano commented about Núñez. "I advised him, 'Choose Napoli!' His family will ultimately determine his future path. He responded, 'Absolutely, I would join Napoli immediately. I'm awaiting the completion of negotiations with Napoli.'"

Gargano, who represented Napoli for eight seasons between 2007 and 2015, briefly played alongside Núñez when the striker emerged at Uruguayan powerhouse Peñrol in 2017. Núñez departed for European football—joining Almería in Spain—within two years, though the duo have maintained their connection.

Should Napoli successfully negotiate terms with Liverpool, Núñez appears set for a new chapter.
