New Man Utd Star Drops Bombshell About Alarming Dressing Room Issues
Manchester United's summer acquisition Matheus Cunha revealed a concerning atmosphere in the locker room after the Red Devils suffered a 3-1 defeat to Brentford on Saturday.
This defeat marked their third loss in six matches to start the Premier League season, excluding a surprising elimination by Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup. The three goals allowed extended their defensive struggles to 11 goals conceded, ranking joint-second worst among all teams in the division. Additionally, manager Ruben Amorim has been unable to secure back-to-back league victories since his appointment in November 2024.
Cunha expressed the team's sentiment following Saturday's latest setback.
"Terrible. Genuinely terrible," he shared with TNT Sports. "I consistently express the same sentiment - we understand the significance of representing a club of this stature and we approach every match with the intention to win. When it doesn't conclude that way, it creates a terrible sensation. Everyone aspired to contribute more, everyone must contribute more. Naturally, we must bounce back, that's the only path forward.
"Honestly, attempting to make excuses, I don't believe is the approach. We understand what needs to be accomplished. I don't believe we performed adequately. They were more prepared, they arrived and found the net, but as I mentioned, that's not an excuse."
Cunha, recruited to energize a sluggish offensive unit alongside Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško, has not yet recorded a goal contribution. Collectively, the three acquisitions have produced only two goals. The trio made their first combined start this season with the Slovenian netting his inaugural goal and Mbeumo earning a spot kick. However, captain Bruno Fernandes failed to convert from twelve yards for the second occasion this campaign.
Man Utd welcome Sunderland on Oct. 4 before the upcoming international window, but encounter a challenging fixture upon their return against table-toppers Liverpool at Anfield. Speculation regarding Amorim's position will likely persist given the ongoing difficulties. Players such as Harry Maguire have previously emphasized the advantages of a complete preseason under the Portuguese manager during the summer, though the backline remains a concern.
Goalkeeper Senne Lammens has not yet made his debut with Altay Bayındır retaining the number one position following André Onana's loan exit.
