Newcastle Eyes €100 Million Striker in Battle Against Man Utd, Liverpool, and Chelsea

Newcastle United have renewed their pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitiké for the third occasion, according to recent reports.

The Magpies were early movers regarding the French striker. They secured an accepted offer from his former club Stade Reims in January 2022, but Ekitiké declined the opportunity to join St James' Park.

Six months later, a transfer package exceeding £20 million (€23.1 million, $27 million) was presented, yet Ekitiké again refused Newcastle's proposal, opting instead for Paris Saint-Germain.

With hopes that persistence will pay off, The Telegraph initially reported Newcastle's renewed interest in Ekitiké, who is viewed as a potential partner for current star forward Alexander Isak rather than his replacement.

However, securing Ekitiké's services has become significantly more challenging than three years prior. His impressive tally of 15 goals and eight assists across 33 matches last season has resulted in a €100 million (£86.6 million, $116.8 million) valuation.

Such performances have naturally attracted attention from top European clubs. Florian Plettenberg identifies Liverpool and Manchester United as interested parties, while Chelsea maintain admiration but are unlikely to pursue such a costly acquisition following their summer signings of Liam Delap and João Pedro.

Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche has explicitly stated that the German club will not part with Ekitiké unless their valuation is met, cautioning potential buyers that the full €100 million fee must be paid.

It should be emphasized that Newcastle envision a partnership between Isak and Ekitiké. Plans are underway to offer Isak a new deal that would establish him as the club's highest-paid player.

Securing backup for Isak remains a crucial objective for Newcastle, particularly after Callum Wilson's departure on a free transfer. Currently, 21-year-old Will Osula represents the sole natural alternative in Eddie Howe's squad.
