Newcastle Launch Official Assault on Man United's Benjamin Sesko Chase

Newcastle United have made an official bid to acquire RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Šeško, according to reports, while Manchester United remain interested in pursuing the Slovenian striker.

The Magpies pivoted to Šeško in recent weeks following Liverpool's interest in Alexander Isak and their successful signing of Hugo Ekitiké, who was Newcastle's primary target—it was understood that coach Eddie Howe intended to deploy both forwards in tandem, rather than viewing Ekitiké, Šeško or another player as Isak's direct successor.

Liverpool have subsequently seen a formal proposal for Isak rejected and are believed to have abandoned their chase of the 25-year-old, yet Newcastle remain in the market for attacking reinforcements and Sky Sports News reports that an offer has been tabled for Šeško.

The proposal totals €75 million (£65.3 million, $86.4 million) with an additional €5 million (£4.4 million, $5.8 million) in performance-related bonuses, matching Leipzig's asking price. Newcastle are now waiting for Šeško's response, with the player also being courted by Manchester United.

Media outlets in Slovenia suggested Šeško had committed to joining Newcastle for the upcoming campaign, though these claims remain unconfirmed. Sky emphasizes that Šeško is "considering both opportunities".

United are reportedly capable of submitting an offer for Šeško without requiring player departures first, though this approach would necessitate future sales to comply with financial fair play rules.

What might benefit United's cause is Leipzig's pursuit of Rasmus Højlund, having considered a potential loan arrangement for the Danish striker. Højlund has openly expressed his wish to remain at Old Trafford this summer, but the potential arrival of a marquee signing like Šeško might alter his position.

Additionally, Newcastle continue to monitor Isak's situation, as the striker remains unsettled following Liverpool's initial approach.
