Nicolas Jackson's Former Suitor Returns to the Hunt as Chelsea Weighs Crucial Loan Recall

Bayern Munich have acknowledged they will not be acquiring Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea, according to German media reports, with the Senegalese forward potentially returning to Newcastle United's transfer considerations.

The Blues informed Bayern they would not be approving Jackson's transfer following Liam Delap's injury setback, and have also chosen to bring back Marc Guiu from his loan spell with Sunderland for additional squad depth.

Delap suffered an injury early in Chelsea's 2–0 victory over Fulham over the weekend, just hours after news broke that Chelsea and Bayern had agreed on a loan arrangement for Jackson that would see the Blues receive a record fee of €15 million (£13 million, $17.5 million).

Due to concerns regarding Delap's injury, Chelsea withdrew Jackson's proposed loan despite the 24-year-old already being in Munich and taking photos with supporters before his scheduled medical examination.

The decision allegedly left Jackson angry and he stayed in Munich hoping to see the transfer revived. Chelsea were understood to be willing to negotiate a permanent sale, but Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports the Bundesliga champions have now abandoned their pursuit.

What lies ahead for Jackson remains uncertain. The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg reports Newcastle could explore a transfer following the agreement to send Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a Premier League record fee of £125 million ($168.7 million).

While Chelsea await a final decision on Jackson's situation, The Telegraph's Matt Law was first to reveal that an arrangement had been reached with Sunderland to bring back Guiu. The 19-year-old only completed a loan move to Sunderland in early August but, following three appearances for the club, is now returning to Chelsea.

Guiu will provide backup for João Pedro during Delap's absence from the squad. The Telegraph reports there are concerns at Stamford Bridge that the Englishman could be sidelined longer than the eight weeks estimated by manager Enzo Maresca, prompting the decision to recall Guiu.

Sunderland, meanwhile, have secured an agreement to replace Guiu with Ajax striker Brian Brobbey on a permanent transfer.
