Oliver Glasner Unleashes Shocking Marc Guehi Transfer Revelation

Oliver Glasner Unleashes Shocking Marc Guehi Transfer Revelation

The likelihood of Marc Guéhi departing Crystal Palace during the January transfer period is growing, based on Oliver Glasner's recent statements in his press conference.

The 25-year-old Guéhi stands as one of football's most sought-after talents. Coveted by numerous European giants—with Real Madrid and Barcelona reportedly interested alongside Premier League powerhouses—he holds significant leverage approaching the summer, as his contract at Selhurst Park expires, enabling a free transfer.

Naturally, this scenario is one Palace desperately wanted to prevent. During the summer, a transfer to Liverpool appeared nearly finalized, only to collapse when Igor Julio surprisingly chose to join West Ham on loan instead of moving to Selhurst Park. Consequently, Guéhi stayed at Palace, where he immediately refocused and committed himself to his duties rather than dwelling on disappointment.

It has since emerged publicly that Guéhi will not extend his Palace contract, leaving last season's FA Cup finalists with two choices; either pursue a January sale to secure some revenue, or utilize his talents to achieve the strongest possible campaign in 2025–26 while finding a replacement during the summer—when player acquisitions are considerably easier.

Palace appeared to adopt the "Guéhi is unavailable" stance, accepting they would lose England's center-back for the foreseeable future without compensation. However, this position has shifted recently, especially with Manchester City seeking reinforcements following extended injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Rúben Dias.

Glasner: Palace Will Sell Guehi for the Right Offer

With many expecting an approach from the eight-time Premier League winners, journalists questioned Glasner about Guéhi's potential immediate departure during his recent press briefing. The Austrian manager, characteristically direct and straightforward when addressing speculation about the vacant Manchester United position, maintained his candid approach with reporters, though this time he acknowledged that Guéhi's departure moment might have come.

"When a player considers himself too good for a club, it's preferable to sell him, and when a player isn't suitable for a club, you must also sell him," Glasner stated. "To maximize your squad's potential, there must be compatibility."

When asked whether City represents that "compatibility," he responded: "It's possible. I'm not naive enough to ignore that if City makes a substantial offer and Marc desires the move, it will occur."

"Nothing in existence is straightforward," Glasner elaborated. "Imagine you own a beautiful car but require funds because it's winter and a home window is damaged, and someone offers you exceptional money for your vehicle. You think, 'No, I won't sell my car. I cherish my car. But I don't want to be cold.' Then you realize, 'If I can repair the window and even get a new roof, you can take the car. But I'd prefer to keep it.'

"It's identical with Marc. Everyone desires him to represent Crystal Palace, sign a new deal and remain permanently. Conversely, his contract expires this summer and if someone approaches while you're struggling, there comes a point when the club decides, 'Now the financial concern outweighs the sporting concern and we must act.'

"There exists a limit where if Marc expresses his desire to leave and the offer exceeds that limit, it will proceed."
