Pedri Shatters Messi's 15-Year Barcelona Record in Historic Achievement

Barcelona's midfield star Pedri has etched his name into club folklore by becoming the youngest player ever to reach 150 La Liga appearances, surpassing Lionel Messi's previous record.

The Spanish talent achieved this historic feat on Saturday during the Blaugrana's commanding 2–0 triumph against Osasuna. Pedri, who provided the assist for Raphinha's opening goal at Camp Nou, completed his 150th top-flight appearance for Barcelona at just 23 years and 18 days of age.

Messi had previously owned this record, reaching the same milestone at 23 years and 121 days on October 23, 2010. The legendary eight-time Ballon d'Or recipient maintained his place in the club's record books for a decade and a half before being surpassed in spectacular fashion.

Across his 150 La Liga outings for Barcelona, Pedri has contributed 22 goals and 17 assists. The Spanish international has also been instrumental in helping the Catalans secure La Liga titles in both 2022–23 and 2024–25 seasons.

Flick Praises 'Exceptional' Pedri Following Osasuna Victory

Hansi Flick

While Osasuna managed to frustrate Barcelona for large portions of Saturday's encounter, the reigning Spanish champions eventually found their breakthrough in the 70th minute to secure a crucial three-point haul.

After the win, which extended his team's lead to seven points over Real Madrid—who still have a match in hand against Alavés—Hansi Flick was full of praise for Pedri's performance.

"Pedri is an exceptional talent, truly world-class. What more can I say about him? He's an absolutely incredible footballer," the German tactician enthused.

"Osasuna applied relentless pressure in their defensive zone, making it challenging to find openings, but when opportunities arose, we capitalized effectively.

"This showcases the exceptional quality that both Pedri and Raphinha possess in these crucial moments. This proved vital for our success today, because as I mentioned earlier, securing these three points was our primary objective."

Barcelona will aim to maintain their winning form heading into a crucial encounter with Villarreal next weekend, marking their final La Liga fixture before the winter recess. However, Flick's squad must first navigate their Copa del Rey round of 32 tie against Guadalajara on Tuesday, December 16.
