Phil Parkinson Issues Bold Transfer Warning to Wrexham After Candid Talks With Reynolds and McElhenney

Phil Parkinson says there are "no guarantees" Wrexham will bring in additional players before the summer transfer window closes on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Wrexham have added three players this summer and gave all three their home debuts in Saturday's 1–1 stalemate against Watford. Anthony Patterson took his place between the posts, while wingback Danny Imray netted his first goal for the club and midfielder Ben Whiteman put in a commanding performance in the center of midfield.

The three new arrivals offered further proof that Wrexham's measured approach to the transfer market could prove worthwhile. Sports Illustrated understands the Red Dragons are still keen to bring in a center back and an additional attacker in the remaining 10 days of the window, though Parkinson has cautioned that further business is far from guaranteed given the quality of players the club is pursuing to meet its ambitions.

Speaking following Wrexham's draw with Watford, Parkinson gave an update on the club's recruitment plans as they look to bolster the squad in the time remaining.

When asked how many players he was hoping to sign, the Wrexham boss responded: "I don't really want to put a number on it. We are working towards several options. I had a great chat with Rob and Ryan before the game, and Mike [Williamson] and Shaun [Harvey].

We know what we are trying to achieve, but we are competing for players, with top teams trying to get those players as well. They're the kind of difference-making players we want.

"But when you're in that kind of battle for those players, you've got a lot of challenges in terms of other clubs trying to take them. We are working as hard as we can, and hopefully we will make good progress in the final 10 days of the transfer window."

Parkinson was also eager to emphasize that Wrexham have no interest in making signings simply to increase squad numbers. The priority remains on recruiting players capable of making a real difference to a side that finished seventh in the EFL Championship last season.

He continued: "You don't want to make a signing for the sake of it. I think the three lads we have brought in, everyone can see what good players they are. We would like to add more quality if we can, but we have got players to come back into the group.

"There are no guarantees any signings come in; there really isn't. The players we are competing for are wanted by other clubs in this division and other divisions around Europe.

"I think to improve what we've got, the standard of player we have got, you are looking at a level of really top Championship players. To get those is challenging because other teams want them or teams don't want to sell them. We know what players we want, what positions. If we get them, great. If not, we have got players coming back off the treatment table, and we will keep building."
