Phil Parkinson is eagerly anticipating the moment Wrexham fans get to witness just how "imposing" their new $95 million Kop Stand will look upon its completion next year.
The newly constructed 5,500-seat Kop Stand will transform the Racecourse Ground back into a four-sided stadium, potentially pushing the total capacity to just above 18,000 — provided a separate planning application to expand the stand to 7,500 seats receives approval.
Wrexham initially unveiled plans for the new stand as part of the Wrexham Gateway project in 2022, but the development was held back by a series of unexpected complications related to planning and financing. As delays continued to pile up, the club filed a revised planning application the following summer, with the Welsh side determined to make the most of a rare opportunity to construct a landmark Kop Stand.
The Red Dragons expect the stand to be ready at some point during the 2026–27 season, though co-chairman Rob Mac tempered those expectations when he assured fans it would more reliably be open in time for the 2027–28 campaign.
Parkinson Gives Update on New Kop Stand

Wrexham's strong home form has been central to their remarkable climb from the National League to the Championship, and Parkinson is hopeful that the new Kop Stand will make the Racecourse Ground an even more daunting destination for opposition sides.
Sports Illustrated released fresh design renders last week, showcasing the sheer scale of the upcoming structure. The stand appears to be at least twice the height of any existing stands at the ground and even surpasses the nearby university accommodation buildings in stature.
"It is very exciting for the club," the Wrexham boss told Leader Live. "I feel there is so much growth still to come and so much to look forward to in terms of the new stand, which is now really starting to take shape.
"Supporters are going to see how imposing that is going to be and what a statement construction that is going to be for the town and the club.
"I think a lot of people will agree we missed the temporary stand because it did help with the atmosphere. But progress is progress, and you have got to take a step back to take two steps forward. As everybody knows, when a stand of that magnitude is being designed and constructed, it takes time, but I am sure it will be worth it when it is up."
When Will the Wrexham Kop Stand Open?

Some uncertainty still surrounds the exact timeline for when Wrexham's new Kop Stand will officially open its doors.
While the club had originally aimed to have the Kop Stand operational during the 2026–27 Championship season, co-chairman Mac has since confirmed that the structure is now on track to be ready for the 2027–28 season.
"I am going to say this publicly, just because it is easier once you say it publicly," he told Collider Interviews. "It is going to be ready for the start of the 2027–28 season. It is going to be open for business, and that means butts in seats. Not next season, but the season after that. There will be people sitting in the seats, watching football."
Ryan Reynolds added: "This man makes things happen. If you tell Rob something impossible, you watch his pupils suddenly dilate, and something happens internally."
The total expenditure on the stand is projected to reach approximately $95 million, with Wrexham's own contribution standing at $67.62 million. The Red Dragons have also secured a contentious $23.46 million grant from the Welsh government, which will assist the club in meeting the UEFA Category 4 standards required to bring competitive men's international fixtures back to Wrexham.
