Player's Father Drops Explosive Liverpool Transfer Revelation About Champions League Right Back

The parent of Galatasaray defender Roland Sallai has revealed that discussions with Liverpool have taken place and he "wouldn't be shocked" to witness his son join as the third Hungarian player to feature at Anfield.

"Roli is content here, he adores the club, he has no desire to depart at any price, but I believe he still has one major move remaining in his career, a truly elite club," Tibor Sallai informed Blikk. "From this position, he can only transfer to a team that genuinely ranks among the world's finest. Liverpool represents such a possibility, and I confess, I wouldn't be shocked if this club switch occurred now."

Sallai moved to Galatasaray in 2024 following his development as a reliable right winger for Freiburg and Hungary's national squad. Originally recruited for an offensive position, the No. 7 has subsequently been converted into a right back—a role that has presented significant challenges for Liverpool this campaign.

"I'm aware that discussions have already taken place through a management agency," Sallai Sr stated.

"I don't wish to and won't announce anything prematurely, but my son will genuinely have an excellent opportunity in the summer, if there's an offer that also benefits Galatasaray, to switch countries and levels. It wouldn't be just any occasion if Liverpool fielded three Hungarians in their starting lineup at Anfield Road."

Sallai represents a figure frequently pushed away from the limelight. It's revealing that his father, a former domestic title winner during his playing days, made the transfer statements instead of the modest player himself. Sallai developed at Puskás Akademia under his father's guidance and grew up hearing tales of his uncle Sandor representing Hungary in two World Cups during the 1980s.

In this Galatasaray squad led by Victor Osimhen and featuring captivating former Premier League stars like Ilkay Gündogan, Leroy Sané and Lucas Torreira, Sallai's hardworking contributions along the right flank can be overlooked.

As the iconic former Gala manager Fatih Terim recently observed about the fullback, Sallai "consistently has something unexpected for the opposition."

At this stage, it shouldn't come as a surprise. Reliability and adaptability, as much as technical ability, represent Sallai's primary strengths. The former winger possesses natural offensive instincts but remains a committed defender without the ball—regardless of his deployment.

During one challenging victory away at Sivasspor in his debut Turkish season, Sallai was utilized in four separate positions within the same fixture. Throughout his 18 months in Istanbul, he has been sidelined for only three matches due to injury. Sacha Boey, who is on loan from Bayern Munich following a €30 million (£26.2 million, $35.3 million) transfer to Bavaria, struggles to regain his place in the team.

Jeremie Frimpong

Liverpool have certainly been tested at right back this campaign. Conor Bradley's season-ending setback in January left Jeremie Frimpong as the sole natural choice for this position in Arne Slot's roster.

Joe Gomez cannot be reliably counted upon to cover and Slot has made it crystal clear that Calvin Ramsay has no prospects in the first team, compelling the Dutch manager to utilize players like Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones to fill that significant void on too many occasions this season.

Most teams function with two senior internationals covering each position, but when that duo are as injury-susceptible as Frimpong and Bradley, a third option might be necessary. Both of Liverpool's current fullbacks would be anticipated to start regularly, so any player the Reds acquire this summer would need to accept a backup position.

A promising youngster like Givairo Read, who has been connected with Arsenal and Manchester City previously, could suit the requirement. Nevertheless, considering Sallai's history of avoiding attention in favor of team success, he might not be entirely against such a role himself.
