Premier League Gameweek 33's Nine Standout Stars: Who Topped the Rankings?

Gameweek 33 may well have been the most consequential round of Premier League matches of the entire campaign.

Manchester City's hard-fought win over Arsenal has set up a thrilling conclusion to the title race, while Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa all made significant strides toward securing Champions League football—all at Chelsea's expense.

At the bottom of the table, Tottenham Hotspur suffered a gut-wrenching result after coming within seconds of escaping the relegation zone, while the round concluded with Wolverhampton Wanderers' relegation from the top flight confirmed.

Here are the standout performers of the gameweek according to FotMob's ratings.

9. Curtis Jones (Liverpool)

Curtis Jones

Rating: 8.4

Right back has been a persistent weak spot for Liverpool throughout the season. Arne Slot clearly trusted Curtis Jones, a natural midfielder, to channel his local knowledge in the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday, and the gamble paid off handsomely.

His tally of 28 defensive contributions was at least double that of any other player on the field, while no one recorded more touches (118), attempted passes (84) or completed passes (79) than Jones, who held his own in his battle with the highly coveted Iliman Ndiaye.

8. Erling Haaland (Man City)

Erling Haaland

Rating: 8.4

Erling Haaland netted the goal that has dragged Manchester City back into Premier League title contention. Mission accomplished.

Few strikers relish going up against Arsenal's William Saliba and Gabriel, yet the imposing Norwegian played the full 90 minutes with a grin on his face—even while having his undershirt torn from his arm and being on the receiving end of a headbutt. His smirk toward the camera at the final whistle may have been his finest moment of the afternoon.

7. Jaydee Canvot (Crystal Palace)

Jaydee Canvot

Rating: 8.4

Thrust into the limelight at Selhurst Park following Marc Guéhi's departure mid-season, Jaydee Canvot has clearly thrived under the added scrutiny. The young Frenchman has been outstanding over recent months, and his display in Crystal Palace's goalless draw against West Ham United on Monday was simply the latest in a string of impressive showings.

Canvot relished his battles with Jarrod Bowen, generally getting the better of him defensively, but what truly caught the eye was his composure in possession as he repeatedly drove forward into midfield to spark attacks. A genuine talent.

6. Noah Okafor (Leeds United)

Noah Okafor

Rating: 8.5

Leeds United all but cemented their place in next season's Premier League with a commanding 3–0 dismantling of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, a result that featured several outstanding individual contributions. First among them is Noah Okafor.

The 25-year-old almost single-handedly put his side in a commanding position within the opening 20 minutes, providing the assist for Leeds' opener before tucking away the second goal shortly afterward.

5. Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Leeds United)

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Rating: 8.6

A 95th-minute penalty from Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealed the win for Leeds and rounded off a strong personal performance from the forward.

Calvert-Lewin was his typically combative self both on the ground and in the air, and arguably should have found the net before eventually converting from the spot.

4. James Justin (Leeds United)

James Justin

Rating: 8.7

Rounding out the Leeds trio is the match's opening goalscorer. James Justin delivered the defining moment of the game with a spectacular overhead kick to convert a chaotic penalty area scramble.

With a touch map that barely left room to see the pitch itself, Justin was a constant menace for Wolves at both ends, surging forward in attack while also leading his team with 17 defensive contributions.

3. Xavi Simons (Tottenham)

Xavi Simons

Rating: 8.7

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have had to be extremely patient with Xavi Simons, whose difficult debut season has been one of many gloomy storylines at the club. The Dutchman has begun to settle in of late and was one of the brightest players in his side's 2–2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Simons contributed a goal and an assist, celebrating his stunning effort with visible emotion before the agony of a late equalizer brought him sharply back to reality.

2. Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

Ollie Watkins

Rating: 9.2

Tammy Abraham's 93rd-minute winner may have grabbed the headlines for Aston Villa this weekend, but Unai Emery's men owed a great deal to Ollie Watkins for even putting them in a position to defeat Sunderland on Sunday.

The England forward guided home two first-time headers and teed up international colleague Morgan Rogers after the interval as part of his continued push to earn a place as Harry Kane's deputy at the World Cup.

1. Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest)

Morgan Gibbs-White

Rating: 9.6

For the first hour, it appeared Nottingham Forest were heading for a shock defeat against Burnley. Then Morgan Gibbs-White came alive.

His maiden career hat-trick, completed in just 15 second-half minutes, sent him soaring to the summit of this week's performance rankings.
