Premier League Gameweek 6: Bold Predictions and Must-Watch Clashes

The Premier League's elite clubs avoided 'pulling a Manchester United' this week, as the remaining 'big six' members comfortably advanced to the Carabao Cup fourth round.

We've entered the demanding phase of the season, with midweek breaks now a distant memory. Despite another round of European fixtures on the horizon, a Monday evening Premier League match has been scheduled for this weekend, leaving viewers with little breathing room in the coming week. What a challenge!

Here are Sports Illustrated's Premier League forecasts for Gameweek 6.

Saturday, Sept. 27: Unbeaten Clash at Selhurst Park

Jean-Philippe Mateta

A thrilling 2–1 triumph over Chelsea created positive momentum around Carrington during the week, and Manchester United have an opportunity to secure consecutive Premier League victories for the first time under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils feature in Saturday's opening fixture at Brentford, a venue where they've suffered 4–0 and 4–3 losses in recent memory. Nevertheless, Keith Andrews' Bees lack the firepower of Thomas Frank's previous squads, having fallen 3–1 to Fulham last weekend.

Bryan Mbeumo has the opportunity to cause problems against his former team, as does João Pedro, with Chelsea hosting feeder club Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge. The Blues face a challenging period without Cole Palmer, potentially beginning this weekend.

Liverpool maintain a perfect record across all competitions this season, but Crystal Palace present formidable opposition for the champions. The Eagles, undefeated in 17 matches, defeated the Reds on penalties in last month's Community Shield. Liverpool also travel without the suspended Hugo Ekitiké.

Leeds United's 3–1 success at Molineux marked their second league victory of the campaign, and they return home this weekend, hosting an impressive Bournemouth squad at Elland Road. Another promoted side, Burnley, also feature during the 3 p.m. blackout, likely employing 90 minutes of stubborn defense away at Manchester City.

The evening fixtures commence with Nottingham Forest, following Wednesday's 2–2 stalemate at Real Betis to begin their Europa League campaign, hosting Sunderland at the City Ground. Clear signs of 'Ange-ball' emerged in Seville, and the new manager will display his philosophy before home supporters for the first time since replacing Nuno Espírito Santo.

Wolverhampton Wanderers remain winless in the Premier League, though they did overcome Everton midweek to advance in the Carabao Cup. Can that victory ignite something in N17 when they face a solid Tottenham Hotspur side that have begun the season positively under Thomas Frank? Wolves have claimed four of the previous five encounters.

Sunday, Sept. 28: Challenging Journey to St. James' Park

Arsenal

'Super Sunday' has failed to meet expectations at the season's start, and we might witness another weekend of cautious play across both matches.

A tight and "sluggish" Aston Villa edged past Bologna in Thursday's Europa League encounter, returning to Villa Park for Fulham's arrival. Marco Silva's Cottagers again appear to be challenging opponents despite their quiet summer transfer activity, aiming to heap more frustration upon the Villans.

Subsequently, Arsenal embark on the lengthy journey north to Tyneside for their first 2025–26 encounter with Newcastle United. These teams clashed four times last season, with the Magpies winning three contests. No more than two goals were netted in any of those matches.

Considerable tension exists between the clubs, and Mikel Arteta's team selection will undoubtedly attract scrutiny, given the manager's apparent conservatism in Arsenal's major fixtures early in the campaign. Anthony Gordon returns to availability for the home side.

Monday, Sept. 29: The David Moyes Derby

Monday Night Football makes its comeback after a short break, with a fascinating encounter awaiting on Merseyside.

David Moyes confronts former club West Ham United at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with the Toffees seeking to recover following back-to-back losses.

A Moyes-managed Everton shared the points 1–1 with the Hammers during the Scotsman's initial meeting with his previous employers, and the teams also met during the Premier League Summer Series in preseason, with Graham Potter's squad prevailing 2–1.

A home loss to Palace last weekend places Potter firmly under pressure, and another disappointing performance here could prove decisive.
