Wolverhampton Wanderers have allegedly secured an agreement to sign Colombian attacking midfielder Jhon Arias from Brazilian club Fluminense.

Fabrizio Romano has stated that Wolves have finalized terms with Fluminense in a transfer deal valued at approximately €20 million (£17 million, $22.8 million) for the 27-year-old talent. The South American player has reportedly given his approval to Wolves' contractual terms and may complete his move within the next few days.

Arias enhanced his reputation significantly during Fluminense's impressive journey to the Club World Cup semi-final stage. While he contributed one goal and one assist throughout the competition, these statistics don't fully reflect his exceptional displays for the Brazilian outfit. The Colombian playmaker topped the tournament charts with 18 key passes created, surpassing the runner-up by six chances, as reported by Squawka. In essence, he stood out as one of the Club World Cup's most outstanding performers.

Fluminense brought Arias to the club in 2021, and he has since established himself as one of their contemporary icons. The versatile attacker recorded 47 goals and provided 55 assists across 229 matches for the Rio-based team, playing a crucial role in securing the club's maiden Copa Libertadores triumph in 2023.

Nevertheless, transitioning to European competition has remained a long-standing ambition for the Colombian national team player. "We'll see what lies ahead, I've maintained a clear aspiration since childhood - competing in Europe," Arias commented during the Club World Cup tournament.

Vítor Pereira's squad was among numerous clubs that were captivated by Arias's standout displays during the recent summer period. Following Matheus Cunha's departure to Manchester United earlier in the transfer window, Wolves seem to have identified their ideal successor.

Arias demonstrates remarkable flexibility, being capable of operating across various positions in the forward line. Despite his relatively late emergence as a top-level talent, Arias proved he can compete effectively against elite European opposition.

Moving forward, he will have the opportunity to display his abilities in England's top flight to secure his position as a guaranteed starter for Colombia in the upcoming FIFA World Cup next summer.
