Premier League Hits Manchester City with New Sanctions Following Latest Rule Violations

The Premier League has officially announced they are seeking penalties against Manchester City for multiple violations of their match start and resumption timing protocols.

City has extensive experience with legal disputes involving the Premier League. They previously fought the league regarding Associated Party Transaction regulations, with both parties eventually declaring success, and are currently waiting for a decision on the extensive probe into more than 115 accusations of financial irregularities.

The latest confrontation with the Premier League involves nine charges for violating kick-off protocols, according to an official league announcement.

City stands accused of not providing adequate justification for postponed kick-offs, occurring both at match commencement and following the halftime break.

Penalties totaling £240,000 ($322,000) were imposed for the initial four violations occurring between October and December 2024, however existing regulations lack automatic penalties for subsequent infractions of these protocols, requiring a committee to determine fines based on violation severity.

After discussions between City and the Premier League, Pep Guardiola's team has consented to pay an additional £800,000 ($1.1 million).

While these matters unfold behind the scenes, supporters remain waiting for a conclusive decision regarding the substantial allegations concerning City's financial operations from 2009 to 2018.

Premier League representatives had previously stated publicly their expectation that the judgment would arrive in March, but this crucial milestone remains pending and legal proceedings will likely continue for additional months as appeals are processed.
