Real Madrid striker Endrick looks set to head out on loan once more this season, with Europa League champions Aston Villa emerging as the frontrunners to secure his services.
The 20-year-old has found first-team opportunities hard to come by since officially completing his move to Madrid in the summer of 2024, arriving as one of South American football's most anticipated talents.
After largely failing to nail down a starting spot under both Carlo Ancelotti and Xabi Alonso, Endrick was sent on loan to Lyon for the second half of the 2025–26 season, where he made a strong impression with eight goals and eight assists across 21 outings.
His performances in Ligue 1 earned him a place in Ancelotti's Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup, after which he returned early to preseason at Real Madrid with hopes of winning over new head coach José Mourinho. Nevertheless, it seems his immediate future will take him away from the Spanish capital.
Madrid have brought in additional competition for Endrick this term in the shape of backup forward Carlos Espí and highly-rated winger Yan Diomande, making it increasingly difficult for the Brazilian to earn minutes — whether as a centre-forward or in the wide position he occupied more frequently during his time at Lyon.
Significantly, Mourinho told the press "I want a small squad, 20 players plus those who are currently injured" — effectively opening the door for departures such as Endrick's ahead of the Sept. 1 transfer deadline.
Where Next for Endrick?
AS report that both Aston Villa and Serie A outfit AS Roma have "expressed an interest" in taking Endrick on a loan basis this season, following his eye-catching displays in France last term. The report indicates that Madrid still regard the youngster as a major asset — one they cannot afford to see lose value.
To make the loan move work, Los Blancos would be prepared to contribute to his wages — a considerable sum of more than €5 million ($5.75 million) per season.
SPORT describe Villa as the "most probable" landing spot. Other reports from Spain have recently suggested that La Liga trio Real Sociedad, Villarreal and Real Betis have all registered interest in taking the forward on loan, while the player himself is eager to compete in European football.
What Would Endrick Offer Aston Villa?
Still barely out of his teens, Endrick has already worked under three different managers at Real Madrid and has gone from one of football's most hyped prospects to something of a forgotten figure in just two years.
The Bernabéu moves on swiftly, and this summer welcomed Diomande — a year Endrick's junior — as the club's exciting new hope.
Once spoken of in the same breath as Vinícius Júnior, Karim Benzema and even Pelé, Endrick's reputation has dipped since his near €60 million ($69 million) transfer, yet his stint in France demonstrated there remains a top-level talent to be unlocked.
His blistering speed, low centre of gravity and clinical finishing set him apart from his contemporaries during his early days at Palmeiras, prompting Madrid to pay such a hefty fee. While adapting to life at the world's biggest club has proven challenging — as it does for many — that does not make Endrick a failure.
The Lyon loan revealed a dynamic, high-energy attacker capable of operating from the right flank as well as through the middle.
Back in May, former France international Emmanuel Petit said he would love to see Endrick join his old club Arsenal. "Endrick is so young, only 19," Petit remarked at the time.

"He's very talented, very gifted, but he's like a wild horse with a lot of energy. On the field, sometimes he can be a bit too selfish. But at the same time, he knows he has huge qualities.
"He needs to be in the right setting to improve and develop because this kid is a diamond. What kind of club would suit him? Given his qualities, I'd love him to come to Arsenal."
