Premier League Scrambles to Fix VAR System for Liverpool vs. Arsenal Showdown Following Chelsea Controversy

Match official Michael Salisbury has been withdrawn from VAR responsibilities for Liverpool's Premier League encounter against Arsenal this Sunday following PGMOL's admission that the referee made a mistake during Chelsea's win over Fulham on Saturday.

Salisbury served as the video assistant referee who instructed match official Rob Jones to review the pitchside monitor after Josh King believed he had given Fulham a 1-0 advantage at Stamford Bridge during Saturday's early kickoff. Salisbury presented his fellow official with video evidence showing Rodrigo Muniz making contact with Trevoh Chalobah before King's expertly executed goal.

Following multiple slow-motion reviews, Jones informed the stadium that the strike had been disallowed for "a reckless challenge" by Fulham's number 9. During Chelsea's 2-0 triumph, which featured significant influence from Salisbury and his team at Stockley Park, additional disputes arose as the Blues netted their first goal in the ninth minute of eight minutes of stoppage time, while Enzo Fernández scored from a questionable spot kick.

However, it was the ruling against Fulham's cancelled goal that PGMOL determined was mistaken, according to ESPN.

Salisbury's recommendation to overturn the goal failed to reach the elevated standard that Premier League officials are attempting to establish for VAR involvement this campaign. PGMOL director Howard Webb is believed to have already reached out to Fulham concerning the incident that greatly frustrated manager Marco Silva.

Following this acknowledgment, Salisbury has been removed from VAR duties for the weekend's premier Premier League match; Arsenal's visit to Liverpool. John Brooks has replaced him in this role.

The Leicestershire official previously served as VAR during Liverpool's dramatic 3-2 triumph against Newcastle United on Monday night, correctly advising Simon Hooper to escalate Anthony Gordon's yellow card to a direct red card after his dangerous tackle on Virgil van Dijk.

Brooks has not officiated an Arsenal match since the second leg of their Carabao Cup semifinal defeat to Newcastle in February.
