Manchester City rising star Nico O'Reilly has been named the seventh winner of the Premier League Young Player of the Season award, edging out fellow City man Rayan Cherki and Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo to take home the accolade.
A graduate of City's academy system, O'Reilly has flourished under Pep Guardiola across the last two campaigns, impressing in both a repurposed left back role and as a box-to-box midfielder. A consistent presence throughout the season, the 21-year-old becomes the third Man City player to lift the award and the fourth Englishman to do so.
"I'm incredibly proud to have received this award," O'Reilly said after seeing off stiff competition. "After my first taste of senior football last season, I knew this year I'd have the chance to play more and contribute to the team as much as I could if I put in the work.
"Getting so much game time and earning the confidence of the manager and my teammates is the biggest achievement of my career to date. I'm so thankful to my family and everyone at City, because none of this would have been possible without their support."
O'Reilly's standout moment of the season came outside the Premier League, with the youngster netting twice in the Carabao Cup final as Man City defeated Arsenal at Wembley. His impressive performances have also earned him a spot in England's 2026 World Cup squad.

The Young Player of the Season award was first introduced in the 2019–20 campaign, with former Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold its first-ever winner after helping the Reds clinch their maiden Premier League title with four goals and 13 assists.
City then took control. Phil Foden claimed consecutive awards in 2020–21 and 2021–22 before aging out of eligibility. Teammate Erling Haaland followed suit during City's treble-winning season, powered by his remarkable 36-goal Premier League haul.
City academy product Cole Palmer claimed the honor in 2023–24—albeit wearing Chelsea colors. A remarkable tally of 33 goal contributions in as many league appearances that season made him the clear frontrunner.
Ryan Gravenberch became the first holding midfielder to win the award, recognized for his pivotal role in Liverpool's 2024–25 Premier League title triumph.
