PSG Breaks Silence on Lamine Yamal Pursuit as Transfer Rumors Explode

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly unlikely to pursue Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal in the near future, despite ongoing transfer speculation surrounding the young winger.

Yamal has emerged as one of football's elite talents over the last two seasons, making his Barcelona debut in April 2023 when he was merely 15 years old. The 2025 Ballon d'Or runner-up possesses the quality to feature for any top club, with PSG frequently rumored to hold interest.

Nevertheless, recent reports suggesting the current European champions are eager to secure Yamal's services for the French capital appear to lack credibility.

Following their record-breaking acquisitions of Neymar and Kylian Mbappé in 2017 and 2018 respectively, plus the free transfer capture of Lionel Messi in 2021, PSG have adopted a modified approach to team construction. All three superstars have departed Parc des Princes, with a renewed squad emphasizing teamwork over individual stardom proving successful.

Consequently, it seems sporting director Luis Campos and head coach Luis Enrique show minimal interest in pursuing Yamal currently. This information comes from journalist Fabrice Hawkins, regarded as a trustworthy source in French football circles.

"[Acquiring Yamal] would contradict certain strategies they are implementing," he stated during a YouTube channel Aliotalk appearance.

"Should they decide to pursue Yamal tomorrow, it would require over €200 million [$230.3 million]. Given that price point and PSG's existing roster, will they chase Yamal? I seriously doubt it."

During October 2024, following Yamal's outstanding displays during Spain's European Championship triumph, Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed he had rejected a €250 million proposal, which would have established a new transfer record.

"A club approached me regarding Lamine for €250 million and I declined," he informed Barcelona's official media, without revealing the identity of the interested party.

The subsequent month, senior Barcelona consultant Enric Masip told El Chiringuito in Spain that the alleged offer "originated from France," seemingly implicating PSG.

However, through a L'Équipe report from France, PSG firmly refuted these allegations.

Relations between these clubs have typically remained strained throughout the years. Barcelona were reluctant to lose Neymar in 2017, but couldn't prevent his departure when PSG activated his €222 million buyout clause and the Brazilian accepted their contract proposal.

PSG also positioned themselves to acquire Messi when Barcelona's serious financial difficulties prevented them from registering an agreed contract, forcing his departure as a free agent. More recently, PSG secured Ousmane Dembélé in a reduced-price transfer in 2023 when Barça felt they had exhausted options to maximize the Frenchman's potential, only for him to achieve new levels that consistently eluded him in Spain and earn the 2025 Ballon d'Or.
