PSG Face Liverpool in Champions League Quarterfinal Showdown: Key Injuries and Bold Lineup Predictions Revealed

Paris Saint-Germain have the opportunity to eliminate Liverpool from the Champions League in consecutive seasons when the two sides meet in their upcoming quarterfinal clash.

Luis Enrique's squad weren't considered genuine title contenders when they squared off against the Reds in the round of 16 last February and March, yet their penalty shootout victory following a hard-fought 1–0 win at Anfield marked a defining moment for the Parisian club.

Several Premier League sides fell victim to PSG's impressive run, and the reigning European champions, after a season that had struggled to ignite, now appear to have recaptured the form that could propel them to successive titles.

They host the first leg on Wednesday before heading to Merseyside the following week, and will also enjoy the advantage of a free weekend ahead of the tie.

Barcola Makes Speedy Recovery But Remains A Doubt

Bradley Barcola

Bradley Barcola is enjoying an outstanding season and was a key figure in PSG's dismantling of Chelsea in the previous round. However, the versatile French winger sustained an ankle sprain during the second leg of that tie and had been anticipated to miss both matches against Liverpool due to "severe ligament damage."

Barcola, however, has recovered faster than anticipated and could potentially feature on Wednesday. He participated in Tuesday's training session, though Enrique has noted the 23-year-old is "lacking a little confidence."

Fabián Ruiz has been sidelined for an extended period with a troublesome knee problem, but the elegant Spanish midfielder is progressing in his recovery and could return to action for the Parisians before long. His ongoing absence from training rules him out of the first leg, though there is optimism he may be available for the visit to Anfield next week.

Barcola and Fabián represent two significant injury concerns, while the promising Senny Mayulu, who netted at Stamford Bridge last month, is also doubtful due to a calf problem.

PSG Predicted Lineup vs. Liverpool (4-3-3)

PSG lineup

GK: Matvey Safonov—PSG may not possess a goalkeeper of Gianluigi Donnarumma's caliber, but Russian shot-stopper Safonov is currently the preferred choice over summer signing Lucas Chevalier.

RB: Achraf Hakimi—A tireless attacking force, Hakimi will look to exploit a fading Andy Robertson or the aggressive Milos Kerkez across these two legs.

CB: Marquinhos—The most seasoned defender in the squad, Marquinhos will be leaned on over the less polished Illia Zabarnyi as the competition reaches its decisive stages.

CB: Willian Pacho—Pacho was outstanding during PSG's title-winning campaign last season, though he has shown some vulnerability in 2025–26. Such mistakes cannot afford to surface at this critical juncture.

LB: Nuno Mendes—The standout fullback was rested at the weekend and will face Mohamed Salah extensively over the coming week. Mendes successfully contained the Egyptian last season.

CM: Vitinha—Vitinha will anchor PSG's midfield and is well-positioned to take advantage of a Liverpool press that has frequently been overrun this season.

CM: João Neves—The tenacious and hardworking Neves is the unheralded backbone of Enrique's side. The compact Portuguese youngster excels in duels and consistently delivers in crucial moments in the attacking third.

CM: Warren Zaïre-Emery—Fabián may eventually reclaim his starting spot, but the dynamic Zaïre-Emery has stepped up admirably in his absence.

RW: Désiré Doué—One of football's brightest young talents, Doué played a pivotal role in helping the holders navigate a challenging all-Ligue 1 playoff tie against Monaco, netting twice in the first leg as PSG overturned an early 2–0 deficit.

ST: Ousmane Dembélé—While the reigning Ballon d'Or winner hasn't been able to replicate his remarkable output from 2024–25, Dembélé remains the creative heartbeat of this PSG side and tops the charts with 22 goal contributions across all competitions.

LW: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia—The Georgian star shone in the round of 16 and will be tasked with getting the better of his compatriot, Giorgi Mamardashvili, in this quarterfinal.
