Pulisic and Weah Unleash Scathing Attack on USMNT Icons in Explosive Tirade

Christian Pulisic and Tim Weah launched a scathing attack on U.S. men's national team veterans during the most recent installment of PULSIC.

Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey and Alexi Lalas have publicly lambasted the current crop of American stars. These former USMNT figures have challenged the squad's passion, dedication and winning mentality, particularly following the near-complete absence of the Stars and Stripes' starting lineup from the 2025 Gold Cup.

Pulisic had previously offered a measured response to the criticism, alongside USMNT colleague Weston McKennie, but the Americans appear to have abandoned their restraint.

While the USMNT skipper avoided naming specific individuals, he took direct aim at those who have attacked many of the Stars and Stripes' top talents this summer.

"I'd say the most irritating thing and, for me, the ultimate excuse of all time," Pulisic stated in an episode of his documentary series PULISIC, "is when all commentators claim, 'They didn't want it. They lacked the passion. In our era we would battle and we would give everything on that pitch.'"

Weah interjected, "I believe those individuals are pursuing paychecks and for me I just think they're genuinely malicious, to be honest, because they've been athletes and they understand what it feels like when you're being criticized.

"Those are the identical people that'll come around and offer their hand and attempt to be cordial with you when all is said and done."

"Don't misunderstand me, I have respect for all of them—they were athletes I admired," Weah went on. "But honestly speaking, the generation before us didn't achieve anything significant either."

Pulisic's father, Mark, who was vocal in opposing Donovan's critique of the current USMNT stars back in June, supported Weah's remarks.

"These individuals want engagement," he stated. "I believe they should examine themselves and review their final displays for the national team before they begin talking nonsense."

While both the present and previous generations of Stars and Stripes have claimed trophies for the United States, the major championships, including a FIFA World Cup, have escaped the USMNT.

Pulisic and his teammates have an opportunity to alter the story when the USMNT co-hosts the 2026 World Cup. With a roster filled with players excelling in Europe at club level, the U.S. possesses the ability to make a deep run next summer, but they must finally combine all elements under new coach Mauricio Pochettino.
