Pulisic's Road to Recovery: When Will USMNT's Star Player Be Back in Action?

Pulisic's Road to Recovery: When Will USMNT's Star Player Be Back in Action?

U.S. men's national team attacker Christian Pulisic has suffered an injury at the most inopportune moment for both AC Milan and the United States national side.

Nothing seems to be going Pulisic's way in 2026. Following a strong start to the campaign, the American star has hit the worst dry spell of his career, failing to score for club or country since the turn of the year from 2025.

Adding to his troubles, the 27-year-old has now been sidelined at a critical point in Milan's push for Champions League qualification. The setback also arrives with the USMNT's World Cup opener against Paraguay just a month away.

Here's the latest on Pulisic's ill-timed injury concerns.

What Injury Does Pulisic Have?

Pulisic was a late withdrawal from Milan's crucial clash with Atalanta on Sunday. The winger was unable to complete the team's final training session ahead of the match due to a muscular issue in his glute, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

While full details surrounding the problem remain unclear, the injury was serious enough to rule Pulisic out of a fixture Massimiliano Allegri's side could not afford to drop. His well-documented injury history likely played a role in the club's decision to err on the side of caution with any discomfort he experiences.

AC Milan are expected to release a clearer update on Pulisic's condition once he has undergone further medical evaluation.

When Will Pulisic Return From Injury?

As Milan have yet to confirm the full extent of Pulisic's muscular issue, pinpointing an exact return date remains difficult. On a positive note, if the problem is simply minor discomfort without a more serious underlying injury, the USMNT star could be back in action within just a matter of days.

However, should further tests reveal a more significant problem, Pulisic could be facing a potentially season-ending injury that rules him out of Milan's remaining fixtures against Genoa and Cagliari. Even a two-week recovery timeline would mean he won't feature for the Rossoneri again in the 2025–26 season.

If Pulisic escapes a serious diagnosis, he should be available for the USMNT's World Cup warm-up matches against Senegal and Germany on May 31 and June 6 respectively. Should the muscular issue demand three to four weeks of rehabilitation, however, he will be in a race against time to be fit for the United States' tournament opener on June 12.
