Raheem Sterling Shocks Football World: Five Major Clubs Left Empty-Handed on Deadline Day

Transfer Deadline Day concluded with numerous players securing moves to and from the Premier League, however one notable figure who failed to secure a transfer was Chelsea's Raheem Sterling.
Sterling was and remains part of the now notorious "unwanted group" which comprised 15 players Chelsea sought to offload during the summer transfer period. Players such as Kepa Arrizabalaga, Ben Chilwell, Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah were reportedly among this contingent. While several secured transfers and Chalobah was eventually reintegrated into the squad due to Levi Colwill's extended absence following an ACL injury, Sterling continues at the club.
Additional names believed to still be included are Axel Disasi and David Datro Fofana.
The former Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal player attracted interest from five clubs this summer: Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus internationally plus Fulham, Crystal Palace and West Ham United, according to BBC reports. Sterling was reportedly keen on the two overseas opportunities, but staying near his family took priority. Chelsea apparently believed Sterling's salary demands and desire to remain in England deterred potential buyers.

Sterling completed last season on loan at Arsenal, featuring in only 17 league matches despite an attacking injury crisis. Unlike the current window, he finalized that deal on Transfer Deadline Day.
The 30-year-old contributed six goal involvements for the Gunners across all competitions (one goal, five assists) in what was generally considered an underwhelming stint. Currently, with the English transfer window closed, Sterling has allegedly been excluded from first-team training sessions, working separately from Maresca's main group until his future situation is resolved.
He never fully adapted and achieved his peak performance levels at Chelsea following his departure from Manchester City. The four-time Premier League champion made 339 appearances for the Citizens, netting 131 goals and recording 86 assists.
At Chelsea, he has managed only 81 appearances since his summer 2022 transfer.
