Barcelona's La Liga campaign rolls on as they face Segunda champions Racing Santander, a side they beat 2–0 in the Copa del Rey earlier in 2026.
Racing have established themselves as one of Europe's most tactically distinctive sides under José Alberto, who has been at the helm in Santander since 2022.
There's a chance the visitors, who sit 10th after five matches of their first La Liga season since 2010–11, could cause problems for their formidable hosts, but finding a way to outscore this relentless Barcelona side will be an almost impossible challenge for the promoted club.
The striker-free Blaugrana are operating at an exceptionally high level as they begin their second straight title defense, and shrewd squad management from Flick should enable them to remain competitive across multiple competitions throughout the campaign.
Barcelona Predicted Lineup vs. Racing Santander
GK: Joan García—The impressive young Spanish shot-stopper has registered three clean sheets in La Liga so far, having faced the fewest shots (39) and second-fewest shots on target (16) in the league.
RB: Jules Koundé—Koundé is gradually returning to his best form following the World Cup, with Eric García having shared duties at right back with the Frenchman. García started against Levante, so Koundé could be in line to reclaim his spot here.
CB: Pau Cubarsí—Spain's rising center back is a fixture at the core of Barcelona's backline, and while Flick will eventually look to give him a breather, he's set to remain in the starting XI for Racing's visit.
CB: Andreas Christensen—Cubarsí has yet to find a consistent partner. Christensen is competing with Gerard Martín, who was substituted at half-time on Sunday.
LB: Xavi Espart—The latest La Masia graduate had a mixed outing at Levante. Despite netting his first La Liga goal, a wayward pass in the build-up contributed to the hosts' late comeback. Nevertheless, he has quickly earned Flick's confidence, and a single error won't shake the German coach's faith in him.
CM: Rodri—The demands of Premier League football have made life in La Liga feel remarkably comfortable for the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, who will aim to keep his comments about opponents in check this midweek.
CM: Pedri—Questions persist over whether Pedri can effectively partner Barça's marquee summer signing, and it may be prudent for Flick to give the 23-year-old a rest by bringing him off around the hour mark. Gavi remains ready on the bench.
RW: Lamine Yamal—Although Spain claimed the trophy, Yamal's World Cup wasn't the individual tournament he had hoped for, but the Ballon d'Or hopeful has hit the ground running at the start of 2026–27. The winger has scored braces in three straight La Liga appearances.
AM: Dani Olmo—Fermín López has proven difficult to displace, but another midweek fixture could create an opportunity for Olmo to force his way back into Flick's starting eleven.
LW: Karim Adeyemi—Much like Anthony Gordon, Adeyemi has made an impressive start to his time in Catalonia. He has shown himself to be a highly effective impact substitute, as demonstrated on Sunday, though his current form could see him earn a place in Flick's starting lineup against Racing.
ST: Raphinha—The striker-less Barça are clicking beautifully, and Raphinha deserves much of the credit. The Brazilian has been among the world's most consistent performers since coming under Flick's guidance, and his form shows no signs of dipping as long as he remains fit and available.
