Manchester United's attempts to offload winger Marcus Rashford this summer look set to fall short, as new reports shed light on the only destinations the England star is willing to entertain.
Rashford spent the previous campaign on loan at Barcelona, but is set to return to Old Trafford after the Catalan club opted against activating a permanent purchase option. A release clause in Rashford's United deal was subsequently left to lapse.
Various clubs from around the world have been linked with the winger, but according to Fabrizio Romano, Rashford has placed an exceptionally high standard on what his next destination must be.
The report states that Rashford sees only two realistic outcomes from this summer's transfer window: either he secures a move to a "top, top, top" European club, or he stays put at United.
Which Clubs Could Convince Rashford?
No additional specifics have been provided regarding Rashford's position, but the general understanding is that the 28-year-old has no intention of taking a step down this summer. Compared to United's stature, the list of viable alternatives is quite limited.
In England, United's decision to exclude Manchester City and Liverpool from Rashford's release clause makes a move to either domestic rival virtually impossible. Premier League title holders Arsenal could be a realistic option, while Chelsea's absence from the Champions League makes it unlikely they would enter the race.
Barcelona are not anticipated to pursue another agreement for Rashford having already brought in both Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, while Real Madrid have little need for additional wide players in a squad already set to receive Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.
That narrows the field to Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain as two credible suitors. Both clubs have shown historical interest in Rashford but have given no indication of chasing a deal this summer.
A case could be made for the likes of Inter and Atlético Madrid, though neither club has made any moves to explore a transfer.
Will Rashford Play for Man Utd Again?
As last season drew to a close and doubts emerged over Barcelona's willingness to keep Rashford, United began making contingency plans for the possibility of welcoming the homegrown talent back into their squad.
It is worth noting that Rashford's falling out at United occurred under previous manager Ruben Amorim, who has since departed Old Trafford. The managerial reins have now been passed to Michael Carrick.
Carrick is reportedly receptive to bringing Rashford back into the fold and is expected to have the versatile attacker return for preseason training in the near future, following a period of rest after the World Cup.

Adding complexity to the situation is Rashford's club-record wages, reportedly in the region of £325,000 ($433,000) per week. Although United could sideline him from first-team duties, they would still be obligated to pay that substantial salary to a player whose market value would deteriorate without regular competitive minutes.
From a financial standpoint, reintegrating Rashford makes considerably more sense, particularly given that he contributed 14 goals and 14 assists for Barcelona across all competitions last season, demonstrating he still has plenty to contribute to Carrick's setup.
