Rasmus Hojlund: Mystery Club Eyes Swoop for Struggling Man Utd Star as Transfer Drama Unfolds

Borussia Dortmund have joined the pursuit of Manchester United forward Rasmus Højlund, who may depart Old Trafford this summer following Benjamin Šeško's acquisition.

Ruben Amorim has looked to revitalize his attacking options this summer after an historically poor Premier League campaign, during which they managed only 44 goals. While Højlund wasn't entirely to blame for United's attacking struggles, his disappointing second season yielding merely four league strikes certainly played a part.

The club secured two productive attacking players in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford respectively, and have also acquired a possible Højlund successor in Šeško from RB Leipzig. United were prepared to invest up to €85 million (£73.8 million, $99.1 million) to secure the promising Slovenian forward.

German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund are "monitoring" Højlund and are considering a potential approach, reports The Athletic. Jadon Sancho also continues to be a target for the Bundesliga side this summer.

There have been mixed reports regarding Højlund's future prospects, with the striker attracting attention from AC Milan this summer. While some sources suggest the player wishes to stay and compete for his position at Old Trafford, other reports indicate that the Danish striker is "receptive" to joining the Italian giants, marking a return to Serie A.

Højlund had a short stint with Atalanta before Manchester United acquired him for a substantial £72 million ($97.3 million).

Though United would favor a permanent Højlund transfer, they might need to accept a loan arrangement with a purchase option or obligation clause included. Dortmund don't need a first-choice striker, considering Serhou Guirassy's presence, but could benefit from additional depth in that role.
