Rasmus Hojlund Shocks Man Utd Fans with Stunning Transfer 'U-Turn'

Although Rasmus Højlund had previously stated his intention to remain at Manchester United, the striker is now reportedly "willing" to consider a move to Milan.

Following an extensive summer pursuit of attacking reinforcements, the Red Devils ultimately secured Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig in a transfer valued at €85 million (£73.8 million, $99.1 million). The 22-year-old striker joins Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in Ruben Amorim's revamped forward line, casting doubt on Højlund's position within the squad.

Recent media reports suggest Manchester United have already struck a preliminary agreement with Milan regarding a temporary transfer for the Danish forward. This development contradicts Højlund's previously stated preference to remain at Old Trafford.

The Manchester Evening News now reports that Højlund has shifted his stance and is "receptive" to beginning anew with the Italian club. The 22-year-old feels "frustrated" by Manchester United's apparent efforts to "push him toward the exit" despite his original intentions.

This development follows just under two weeks since Højlund publicly affirmed his dedication to the Red Devils. "My intention is crystal clear - I want to remain and compete for my position, regardless of circumstances," he had stated.

However, Manchester United appears prepared to part ways with the forward who managed only 10 goals across 52 matches in the previous campaign. With Šeško anticipated to spearhead the attack, Højlund would find himself competing for substitute appearances alongside Joshua Zirkzee.

The Danish international's match involvement is already declining; Højlund participated for merely 18 minutes against Everton and remained on the bench throughout the friendly against Fiorentina as the Red Devils concluded their preseason preparations on Saturday.

Højlund stands a stronger prospect of securing regular starts in Milan's starting eleven. The Serie A club has invested heavily this summer in their squad reconstruction following a disappointing eighth-position league campaign.

While this may not align with Højlund's summer expectations, particularly with three years remaining on his Manchester United deal, it could provide the struggling striker an opportunity to regain his confidence away from Old Trafford, similar to Antony's successful loan spell with Real Betis last season.
