RB Leipzig Director Delivers Blunt Message to Chelsea Over Xavi Simons Transfer Pursuit

RB Leipzig's sporting director Marcel Schäfer has confirmed that Xavi Simons has discussed a potential move to Chelsea with the club, as the Blues are set to intensify their pursuit in the upcoming days.

Chelsea have been pursuing Simons for several weeks, and the Netherlands international has reportedly expressed his desire for the transfer, working discretely to help orchestrate a move to Stamford Bridge.

Negotiations temporarily slowed as Simons committed to representing Leipzig against defending champions Bayern Munich on Friday. However, the match didn't unfold as hoped, with Leipzig suffering a devastating 6–0 loss.

Following the match, Schäfer discussed Simons's situation with Sky Germany, cautioning Chelsea that no deal will materialize unless they improve their current offer.

"At this moment, Xavi remains with our squad," Schäfer stated. "We've consistently maintained that all decisions are made considering both sporting and financial factors, which is why Xavi belongs to us and participated today.

"The window remains active. Anything could develop. I cannot provide a complete guarantee [regarding his stay]. His aspirations are well-known. He's been transparent about this with us."

When questioned specifically about Chelsea's offer, Schäfer declined to share specifics but acknowledged ongoing discussions.

"There have definitely been several conversations over recent weeks," he admitted. "As evidenced today, Xavi started the match. Therefore, no deal has been reached. That's the current situation."

Chelsea are reportedly awaiting player departures before accelerating their interest in both Simons and Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho. Christopher Nkunku is being considered as a potential Simons replacement at Leipzig, with Liverpool's Harvey Elliott also on their radar.
