Real Madrid Dominate Valencia to Crank Up the Heat on La Liga's Top Spot

Real Madrid kept the momentum going with a convincing 3–0 victory away at Valencia on Saturday evening to extend their winning run and maintain their push at the top of La Liga.

The opening stages proved challenging for Real Madrid, who found it difficult to break down a resolute Valencia low-block as Javier Aguirre's side appeared solely focused on shutting down Madrid's attacking play.

But Los Blancos refused to be held back and broke the deadlock in the 26th minute with another thunderous long-range strike from captain Federico Valverde. The goal lifted the pressure, and after three minutes of uninterrupted possession, Los Blancos doubled their lead in the 36th minute when Arda Güler volleyed home a deflected cross from Jude Bellingham.

Real Madrid controlled the second half against the struggling hosts, and after several chances to extend the lead, Kylian Mbappé eventually added a third by rounding the goalkeeper to score his 13th league goal of the season. Adding to Valencia's misery, captain José Gayà was shown a red card in the closing stages of the match.

Los Blancos have now strung together eight consecutive wins across all competitions heading into the November international break. Mourinho's men got the job done and will end the night level with Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table, with the Catalans set to face Atlético Madrid on Sunday in a pivotal title race showdown.

The Moment That Decided the Match

Fede Valverde's strike that opened the scoring.

Getting on the scoresheet first was always going to be the most crucial, yet most challenging task of Madrid's visit to Mestalla.

José Mourinho had warned this was "one of the most difficult games of the season" ahead of kick-off. With Los Blancos up against a team and a manager that "aren't concerned about playing beautifully," grinding out a result was the only priority.

Mourinho's assessment proved accurate as Real Madrid were dragged into a physical battle from the outset. Valencia appeared satisfied with a goalless draw from the first whistle, sitting deep with maximum defensive effort and frustrating Los Blancos with persistent fouling that disrupted the flow of play and prevented the visitors from ever finding their rhythm.

One of those fouls produced a dangerous free kick that Kylian Mbappé fired directly into the wall, but the rebound fell perfectly. The ball dropped right into Valverde's path on the edge of the area, and after an excellent first touch, Madrid's captain drilled a low, powerful shot into the bottom corner to hand Los Blancos the lead just before the half-hour mark.

Valverde's goal finally gave Los Blancos the breathing room and the foothold they desperately needed to dismantle Valencia's defensive setup and take control of the match. Güler added the second less than 10 minutes later, and the contest was essentially settled by the time the half-time whistle sounded.

*Ratings Provided by FotMob*

GK: Thibaut Courtois—7.9: He was never going to be heavily tested, but the two shots on target he faced were handled with ease and composure.

RB: Federico Valverde—8.2: There's a strong case to be made that no player strikes the ball better from the edge of the box than Valverde. A stunning goal combined with a solid defensive display.

CB: Ibrahima Konaté—7.5: Arnaut Danjuma gave him some early trouble, but Konaté settled into the game and was impressively solid. A perfectly timed sliding challenge on Umar Sadiq, who was clean through on goal, stood out as the highlight of a strong performance from the Frenchman.

CB: Dean Huijsen—7.8: An authoritative display from Huijsen, who was a commanding presence defensively and consistently helped Madrid build from the back with precise line-breaking passes.

LB: Marc Cucurella—8.1: Matched Valencia's combative, at times rough style with equal intensity. Held firm on the left flank, contributed heavily to winning the ball back, and was near-perfect in his distribution.

DM: Bernardo Silva—7.6: Amid the frantic early exchanges, the game calmed whenever the ball reached Silva. He brought composure and creativity, ending the match as the top chance creator on the pitch with four chances created.

DM: Aurélien Tchouaméni—7.4: Lacked sharpness in possession at times, and a costly giveaway nearly handed Valencia the opening goal.

RW: Arda Güler—8.9: Another goal and assist for Güler, who has arguably been Real Madrid's standout performer this season.

AM: Jude Bellingham—7.9: Frequently targeted by multiple defenders, which caused him to fade in and out of the game. It was a tough environment for him, yet he still made his mark with a surging run that led to Güler's goal. Found more joy with greater space to work with in the second half.

LW: Yan Diomande—8.1: Worked tirelessly without the ball, pressing and tracking back from the first minute, while also posing a constant threat and producing some eye-catching dribbles. Madrid's most dangerous attacking outlet.

ST: Kylian Mbappé—8.5: His movement was excellent and he produced a couple of explosive runs, though he was less clinical in front of goal than usual. Still, on his sixth shot of the game he finally found the net.
