Real Madrid head to Munich for the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals requiring a victory to overturn a 2–1 first-leg deficit against Bayern and keep their hopes of ending the campaign with a trophy intact.
A thrilling, back-and-forth contest ended in a loss for Madrid at the Bernabéu in the opening leg. Goals on either side of the interval from Luis Díaz and Harry Kane ultimately secured the win for the visitors. Nevertheless, Kylian Mbappé's close-range finish at the back post following a defense-splitting Trent Alexander-Arnold cross gave Madrid reason to believe as they make the trip to Germany.
Claiming a result at the Allianz Arena will be no easy task—Bayern have been beaten just once at home across all competitions in 2025–26 (against Augsburg in January) and have just broken a Bundesliga record for most goals scored in a single season. That said, high-stakes Champions League evenings are very much Real Madrid's domain and, driven by a sense of destiny, Los Blancos will be convinced that if any side can topple Bayern, it is theirs.
Should they fall short, it would effectively confirm a trophy-free season at the Bernabéu—something not witnessed since the 2020–21 campaign.
With Wednesday shaping up to be the most pivotal night of both his managerial tenure and Madrid's season, Álvaro Arbeloa faces some critical selection calls.

The unavailability of midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni is Madrid's most pressing concern ahead of the trip to Munich. The Frenchman picked up a yellow card in the first leg, ruling him out through suspension for this fixture, with Eduardo Camavinga or 18-year-old Thiago Pitarch expected to fill the holding midfield role in his absence.
Other notable absentees include goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Rodrygo, both of whom missed the first leg and continue to be sidelined through injury.
Raúl Asencio is the only other regular first-team player who will not make the journey to Munich. The center-back has been omitted from the travelling squad, though no medical explanation has been given and the reason for his exclusion remains unclear. He was recently dropped for disciplinary reasons.
Franco Mastantuono also returns to the squad after serving a suspension.
Real Madrid Predicted Lineup vs. Bayern Munich

GK: Andriy Lunin—The 27-year-old Ukrainian international has stepped up during Courtois' injury layoff, but is yet to record a clean sheet across eight appearances this season.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold—The Englishman was given a rest for Friday's match against Girona and remains Arbeloa's first-choice right-back option despite persistent questions surrounding his defensive reliability.
CB: Éder Militão—The Brazilian played just over an hour on Friday evening, with his workload being carefully managed following another injury-disrupted season. If considered fit, he should be preferred over Dean Huijsen.
CB: Antonio Rüdiger—Another defender whose minutes are closely monitored. The German sat out the Girona fixture and will be crucial in containing the threat of Harry Kane in Munich.
LB: Ferland Mendy—Álvaro Carreras' disastrous performance in the first leg was a significant factor in Madrid's defeat. A fully recovered Mendy is expected to be deployed to help neutralize fellow Frenchman Olise.
RM: Federico Valverde—Nominally positioned on the right of a fluid midfield unit, Valverde—the standout performer in the last-16 tie against Man City—possesses the energy and determination to help dictate play at the Allianz Arena.
CM: Jude Bellingham—The dynamic shifted noticeably when Bellingham entered as a substitute at the Bernabéu in the first leg. The Englishman has yet to find the net against Bayern Munich across 11 previous meetings.
CM: Eduardo Camavinga—Wednesday night could represent a defining chapter in Camavinga's Madrid story. Stepping into Tchouaméni's role as the 'six', supporters will be hoping to see the version of the player who commanded the midfield in the 2024 Champions League final against Dortmund.
LM: Arda Güler—Perhaps surprisingly, no Madrid player has appeared in more matches than the Turkish star this season. With four European assists to his name in this campaign, he will look to provide the creative impetus needed to spark a comeback.
ST: Kylian Mbappé—The French talisman registered six shots and a goal in the first leg. Despite sustaining a head injury late in the Girona match, the Champions League's top scorer is expected to lead the line.
ST: Vinicius Junior—Arbeloa described it as 'normal' that supporters jeered the Brazilian during the first leg. He has contributed nine goal involvements in European competition so far this season.
