Real Madrid Fires Back at Mbappe Drama, Bracing for a Tense and Unpredictable Summer

Kylian Mbappé has reportedly been called in for urgent talks with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez regarding his string of recent controversies.

The French forward has found himself at the center of much of the turmoil that has surrounded the Bernabéu in 2026. After drawing criticism for his conduct during his injury absence, Mbappé was met with boos from fans upon his return to the pitch at the weekend, following which he publicly questioned manager Álvaro Arbeloa's decision to name him among the substitutes.

While Pérez had already been planning a sit-down with Mbappé to help him manage the fallout, his remarks directed at Arbeloa have raised fresh alarm among those at the top of the club, with AS reporting that Pérez has now made the meeting with the striker a top priority.

The president and his inner circle have become increasingly worried about the state of Mbappé's relationships with several key figures at the club. In addition to a deteriorating dynamic with Arbeloa, his conduct is believed to have caused frustration among a number of teammates and members of the coaching staff.

Madrid's hierarchy needs to get to the bottom of what is happening with Mbappé and, above all, determine whether the situation is salvageable.

Could Real Madrid Sell Mbappé?

The report further emphasizes that Madrid continue to regard Mbappé as the cornerstone of their long-term project, with Pérez having publicly described the French international as the finest player on the planet at a recent press conference—a view he is also known to hold behind closed doors.

As such, there is no current intention to part ways with Mbappé, who remains tied to the club until 2029. Critically, however, it is noted that no individual in the dressing room is considered beyond reproach or untouchable.

Pérez has never shied away from making difficult calls, and when pushed to the limit by other high-profile stars, has consistently placed the club's interests first. The exits of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018 and Sergio Ramos in 2021 are cited as proof that Madrid would not hesitate to move Mbappé on if they felt it was the right course of action.

"Drastic measures," including a potential sale of Mbappé, have not been taken off the table as Madrid seek to restore harmony behind the scenes, though every effort will be made to ensure things do not reach an irreversible breaking point.

Should Madrid opt to sell Mbappé, the practicalities of any such transfer would quickly come into focus. He would undoubtedly command an enormous price, both in terms of transfer fees and salary demands, which would significantly narrow the field of clubs capable of signing him.

Mbappé himself has made clear he has no desire to leave. "Why would I?" he shrugged at the conclusion of his explosive press appearance.
