Real Madrid Icon Spearheads Stunning €400 Million Takeover Bid for La Liga Powerhouse

Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos is allegedly involved in a €400 million ($469.2 million) offer to acquire his former youth club Sevilla.

The organization, currently owned by various stakeholders including the Del Nido family, Sevillistas de Nervion collective, ex-president Rafael Carrion, and Sevillistas Unidos 2020, has faced significant financial difficulties in recent times.

As reported by The Athletic, Ramos, together with an unnamed American investment fund, are leading an initiative to buy complete ownership of Sevilla to initiate a fresh chapter for the La Liga team. The Spanish defender acts as the proposal's "figurehead" while not being the primary financial backer in the prospective acquisition.

However, the transaction depends on the club's existing liabilities, estimated at approximately €180 million ($211.1 million). The offer awaits an independent assessment to determine the precise calculation of Sevilla's total debt.

Ramos hails from Camas, located in the Seville region, and started his football journey at the club's youth system before featuring in 39 matches for the senior squad during his teenage years. Subsequently, the defender transferred to Real Madrid in 2005 and became an institutional figure, contributing to the Madrid club's four Champions League victories.

Nevertheless, the 2010 World Cup champion maintained his connection to his original club. Ramos rejoined Sevilla for another period in 2023–24 before departing for Liga MX.

Sevilla Acquisition Could Affect Ramos's Spanish Career Prospects

Following two campaigns with Monterrey, Ramos's agreement with the Mexican club concluded in December 2025. Currently without a team, the 39-year-old might consider returning to Spain to extend his illustrious playing career.

However, should Ramos become a Sevilla proprietor, he would be prohibited from competing in La Liga. Maintaining ownership in a Spanish club while participating in Spain's premier division creates a conflict of interest and breaches league regulations designed to preserve competitive fairness.

The Athletic indicates that the potential Sevilla purchase will require "considerable time" to complete, possibly allowing the defender to join a La Liga team for the latter portion of the 2025–26 campaign if desired.

Ramos has exclusively played for Real Madrid and Sevilla in Spain's top division. The former national team player has until the January transfer period ends to decide his playing future and whether it will bring him back to Spain.
