Real Madrid Makes Shocking Striker Transfer Reversal Mid-Club World Cup Campaign

Real Madrid have reportedly abandoned their plans to sign a new striker in the upcoming summer transfer window, as new head coach Xabi Alonso appears to be impressed by the development of promising youngster Gonzalo García.
Following his appointment earlier this summer, Alonso had initially expressed his desire to bring in a new forward who could provide a different style compared to Kylian Mbappé. He referenced Joselu as an ideal example - a physically imposing player content with a substitute role, similar to his situation during his 2023-24 loan period at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Several potential targets have been mentioned, including Osasuna's Ante Budimir most recently, but according to AS, García might now be entrusted with this responsibility following his outstanding performances at the Club World Cup.
The 21-year-old García has found the net twice across three matches this summer, with Alonso drawing comparisons between the rising talent and club legend Raúl González. His displays are thought to have already persuaded Alonso that García can fulfill the requirements for the upcoming season. Consequently, Madrid executives have ceased their pursuit of a new striker.

Joselu appeared to show his support for García through social media, posting a fire emoji in response to an image of the striker celebrating during the Club World Cup.
"[Joselu] has been an exceptional player at this club and serves as an inspiration to me," García commented recently. "When I spoke with him the other day, I mentioned that all these comparisons to him are truly an honor and something I never expected.
"He represents everything I aspire to be - a striker who excelled both at Castilla and with the senior squad. I hope to follow in his footsteps."
