Real Madrid Officially Seal Alvaro Carreras Deal with Contract Details Unveiled

Real Madrid has finalized a deal to acquire Benfica's left-back Álvaro Carreras, completing their fourth summer acquisition.
Carreras, who developed through the youth systems of both Los Blancos and Manchester United, has committed to a six-year contract with the Spanish powerhouse, running until June 30, 2031. This transfer follows several weeks of discussions between Real Madrid and Benfica.
As reported by The Athletic, both clubs settled on a transfer fee of €50 million ($58.42 million). Los Blancos activated the defender's buyout clause to secure Carreras's services for the upcoming 2025–26 campaign.
Carreras delivered strong performances during his two-season stint at Benfica, featuring in 68 matches across various competitions while contributing 10 goals and assists. The 22-year-old also played a key role in helping the team capture the Portuguese League Cup in May.
He represented the Portuguese side at the FIFA Club World Cup, earning starts against Boca Juniors and Auckland City during the group phase before Benfica's elimination by Chelsea in the knockout round.
This acquisition represents Real Madrid's third defensive reinforcement this summer as the organization seeks to restructure following an underwhelming 2024–25 season. Carreras joins Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold in forming Real Madrid's revamped defensive unit.
The club has also brought in 17-year-old Franco Mastantuono to strengthen their attacking options on the right flank, particularly given Rodrygo's questionable future.
Carreras faces the challenge of making an impression on Xabi Alonso and securing his place in Los Blancos' starting lineup. With Ferland Mendy still sidelined due to injury and Fran García struggling against elite European competition, the starting position remains available for Carreras to claim.
