Endrick is set to remain at Real Madrid for another campaign after the club abruptly reversed course on loan negotiations, according to several reports.
The 20-year-old Brazilian attacker attracted interest from Aston Villa and AS Roma, among other clubs, during this offseason and had seemed poised to join the Europa League champions for the upcoming season, having found playing time scarce in the Spanish capital since officially arriving at Los Blancos in the summer of 2024.
"I want a small squad, 20 players plus those who are currently injured," new boss José Mourinho had previously told the media, opening the door for departures such as Endrick's ahead of the transfer deadline on Sept. 1.
This would have been Endrick's second loan stint, following his brief yet highly productive spell at Olympique Lyonnais during the second half of the 2025–26 season. He netted eight goals and contributed five assists across just 21 outings for the Ligue 1 club, a run of form that earned him a place in Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Mourinho, however, put a stop to all loan discussions on Monday, instead signaling that Endrick could play a meaningful role this season if the youngster steps up to the challenge. President Florentino Pérez reportedly concurred, and Endrick made clear his willingness to prove himself. Loan talks are anticipated to resurface in January, however, if Endrick fails to earn consistent playing time.
Fierce Competition for Endrick
The young star will look to carry the momentum he built in France last spring, along with the experience of his first World Cup, despite Brazil's early elimination. Mourinho envisions Endrick contributing as either a striker or on the right wing, where he proved to be a dangerous weapon for Lyon. Even so, he will face stiff competition within the squad.
Madrid have brought in backup striker Carlos Espí and 19-year-old winger Yan Diomande, who predominantly operates on the right flank, making it even harder for the Brazilian to secure minutes at either position.
Endrick may come to regret his decision to stay at the Bernabéu, as the Premier League could have provided him with an opportunity to restore his reputation and cement a starting role. His standing has dropped considerably since his nearly €60 million ($69 million) transfer to Madrid from Palmeiras two years ago.
Diomande will also be the new sensation at the club, having joined the Spanish giants last week in a deal valued at €140 million ($162 million) from RB Leipzig — making him the most expensive signing in Real Madrid history, the priciest African player ever, and the second-most expensive teenager of all time. There may simply not be enough room in the spotlight for Endrick at Los Blancos.
Real Madrid kick off their La Liga campaign on August 22 against Espanyol, where the early chapters of Endrick's story at the club will begin to unfold.
