Real Madrid Star Drops Bombshell Contract Demand That Defies Club's Iron Rules

During current contract discussions, Thibaut Courtois has expressed his intention to remain at Real Madrid in the coming years.
Time is running out on Courtois's existing agreement with Real Madrid. The goalkeeper's contract only extends through the conclusion of the 2025–26 campaign. Without a fresh agreement, the Belgian international could depart the Spanish capital as a free agent following next season.
Regardless of the uncertain nature of his contractual status, Courtois reassured supporters of his dedication to Real Madrid.
"Extending my contract? Discussions are underway. I wish to remain at Real Madrid for as long as feasible. My aspiration is to conclude my career with this club," Courtois shared with Sporza during the Belgian Grand Prix.
The 33-year-old's ambitions appear to match Real Madrid's intentions. Latest reports indicate the Spanish powerhouse has already reached terms on a fresh contract with Courtois extending through 2027, although the organization has not yet officially announced the renewal.

The fresh agreement would represent a shift from Real Madrid's contractual approach; usually, the organization only provides one-year renewals to athletes beyond 30 years of age. However, Courtois would now receive a two-year arrangement, guaranteeing his position at the world's premier club until age 35.
Los Blancos evidently view Courtois as deserving of an exemption from their established guidelines. Indeed, the former Chelsea goalkeeper has been among Real Madrid's finest, most reliable performers throughout the past seven seasons.
The Belgian transferred from London to the Spanish capital in 2018, subsequently accumulating 288 matches for Real Madrid. During this period, Courtois achieved 113 shutouts and contributed to the team's three La Liga championships and two Champions League victories.
Despite a challenging 2024–25 campaign where Real Madrid allowed 84 goals in all tournaments, criticism seldom targeted Courtois, who performed exceptionally behind an improvised defensive line.
A contract renewal would benefit both Courtois, who has openly stated his wish to stay in Madrid, and the organization, which would be eager to secure one of the world's premier goalkeepers.
