Real Madrid Strike Gold with Blockbuster January Signing—Report

Real Madrid forward Endrick is set to move to Ligue 1 on a temporary deal with former Champions League semifinalists Lyon, according to various media sources.

Although he was given the prestigious No. 9 jersey for the 2025–26 campaign, Endrick has struggled to establish himself in Xabi Alonso's squad. The 19-year-old Brazilian has featured in only three matches, accumulating merely 99 minutes of playing time under the new coach, frequently being passed over in favor of Club World Cup sensation Gonzalo García.

This challenging situation at Real Madrid has led Endrick to seek a temporary departure from the Spanish capital for a new opportunity in France. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the agreement has been finalized for the Brazilian to move to Lyon for the rest of the current season.

The transfer reportedly excludes a purchase option and involves Real Madrid covering 50% of Endrick's wages. When June arrives, the young player will return to the Bernabéu to attempt once more to secure his position at one of football's most prestigious clubs.

L'Équipe reports that the arrangement, valued at €1 million ($1.2 million), is expected to be formalized within the next 48 hours. Endrick will then officially link up with his new squad on January 1st, 2026, when the winter transfer period begins.

Endrick Determined to Secure Spot for 2026 FIFA World Cup

With only six months remaining before the 2026 World Cup begins in the United States, Canada and Mexico, Endrick is rapidly running short of time to secure his spot in Carlo Ancelotti's national team roster. The young striker hasn't received a Brazil call-up since the Italian manager assumed control in May, though he does possess 14 international appearances and three goals.

His limited game time at Real Madrid had made Endrick's prospects of participating in next summer's global tournament nearly impossible, but a successful stint at Lyon could potentially create an opportunity for the promising talent to join players like Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Raphinha in Ancelotti's Seleção plans.

Rediscovering his best form in Ligue 1 would also capture Alonso's interest, as the manager continues searching for the optimal answer to Los Blancos' offensive struggles. The coach will place significant expectations on Gonzalo now that the Spanish player remains the sole natural striker in the roster.

Endrick, for his part, will aim to earn regular playing opportunities in France to ultimately revitalize his once-bright career trajectory.
