Real Madrid Superstar Drops Bombshell Transfer Verdict, Issues Stern Challenge to Club's Latest Recruit

Ferland Mendy has no desire to depart Real Madrid this summer, even with fresh competition arriving in the form of new acquisition Álvaro Carreras.

Within a two-month period, Real Madrid transformed from having just one fit senior fullback to boasting five options. While Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal understand their positions for the coming campaign, uncertainty exists regarding Xabi Alonso's preferred left-back starter.

Beyond Mendy, who has featured for merely 11 minutes since March, Los Blancos possess Fran García and the recently arrived Carreras. The Spanish defender completed his transfer to the capital this summer in a transaction valued at €50 million ($58.42 million).

Having three left-backs creates an excess for the Spanish powerhouse, creating opportunities for either Mendy or García to seek new destinations this summer.

Per Marca, Mendy refuses to depart without resistance and stands prepared to compete for his position at Real Madrid. The French defender maintains a "calm and confident" outlook that he will secure the starting role upon complete recovery from recent surgery addressing a torn tendon in his right quadriceps.

Ferland Mendy

Mendy's intentions appear to conflict with the club's preferences. Recent reports indicate Real Madrid seeks to offload the defender, with the Spanish giants allegedly viewing Mendy as "somewhat surplus" following Carreras's acquisition.

This reported strategy aligns with Alonso's reconstruction efforts. Los Blancos prioritize nurturing and promoting young prospects as the organization enters a fresh chapter.

Despite Mendy contributing to Real Madrid's two Champions League victories and 11 additional honors, he no longer holds trusted status within the squad due to his injury record. During the previous campaign, the 30-year-old participated in only 31 matches across Los Blancos' 68-game season while enduring extended absences with multiple ailments.

The France representative also lacks attacking instincts as a fullback and would presumably struggle as a wing-back should Alonso implement his favored three-defender system in 2025–26.

Nevertheless, despite facing challenging circumstances, Mendy appears determined to compete against both Carreras and García to maintain his place at football's most prestigious institution.
